Subject: The truth is, it is much more impressive to be accomplished, have a great marriage and a great body after having children! It may give the mom's bonus points in the eye of the judges.

[> [> [> Subject: Gee, have you not gotten the memo? Those of us who do not have children are 2nd class citizens and some gals/society make no bones about telling us that!! I cannot believe this has not been explained to you before....by some fellow "full of herself" contestant. I remember one time receiving a phone call regarding who won our state pageant Mrs A pageant and the caller made the comment that she was disappointed because the winner did not have any children! No that takes balls!!

[> [> [> [> Subject: That's so ridiculous! My Mrs America state pageant has had an equal amount of women with children as without children. The judging does not include whether they're a MOM or not. In fact, some of them may not be able to conceive a child. How unfair that would be if having children was taken into consideration!

[> [> Subject: Quit freaking! Not giving birth to a child makes you no less important. It is just harder for women who have given birth to have a great body compared to those who have not that's all! Women with children also are more challenged with their time and responsibilities. Winning should not be about if you have kids or not but it could give the mom's a little bonus point because of the added challenge the same as if someone had a disability or other challenge in their life!

[> [> [> Subject: It's harder for women who have had children....really....I remember being at a national pageant and the winner had just had a baby and was busy thanking her nanny, personal chef and trainer!!! Give me a break.....anytime someone brings up the "child card," it is inappropriate, PERIOD!!!

[> [> [> [> Subject: OK, this I have to respond to! I competed this year after having my child and yes, there are some of us without nanny's, personal chefs, and trainers. In the past, my husband has been able to help me, but this time, all her could do was not freak if I wanted to skip on dessert. I was up every morning at 5am to lose the 50 lbs of baby weight., Then I WORKED, physical work as a dentist full time, then home, play with daughter, collapse, all over again. Not all of us who are mothers and get back in shape have a staff....some of us just have amazing work ethic!

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Not saying that we moms should get bonus points. But losing weight when you are back at work 6 weeks after birth (or else!), dealing with a screaming child, not sleeping. is really really hard. We all have our struggles and triumphs in our own lives. But please do not perpetuate the stereotype that we pageant ladies are divas with staff to help us with every detail. The truth is, that most of us are "normal" women with a great hobby that keeps us motivated, focused, and connected to our communities. Forgive the typos!

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: And you believe that couples without children don't have these demanding schedules, sleepless nights, demands on their time? Do you truly believe that we don't have demanding careers plus care for our aging parents, assist with our nieces and nephews who's parents have been deployed, and are naturally in shape and have a good figure???? Like I said, DO NOT bring up the "Child Card!" It is so politically incorrect.

Suggesting it's not hard to be a Mom and back in shape because of one winner, who thanked her nanny, personal chef and trainer. And do you believe that couples WITH children do not have the responsibility of aging parents, and help with assisting other family members besides their children?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Yes, I know that you do. I said that everyone has their struggles and triumphs...but don't assume that just because we are moms and compete in pageants mean that we have a staff. After a host of health problems, I have concluded that everyone has their issues that they have to deal with. No one is immune. Women with children should not get bonus points, but they should not be chided either! If you haven't lived though a child with colic then you just cannote relate. I cannot help you there. I was blessed to have a perfect angel for the most part and it was hard. Harder than 1st year of an Ivy League Professional School. So I can understand where some women are coming from. But if you don't bring up children, then leave out all of the sob stories too. If Mrs. America is a "beauty" pageant like it claims to be then we should all be on an equal field. Wish I could be "naturally in shape", I have to work for it!

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Well Said Dr. Ellie thank you for your intelligent comments. I've competed with Diva mom's and it is sad when they portray them selves as a real mom in the trenches! The judges will only see what is presented to them and how well it is sold!
