We are all in this together. We all inhabit the same board; we all enjoy the activities as they unfold; we all pursue the same passion; we all benefit from the entertainment value Ms Earth provides. Can we just sit back and relax. Even if we have individual preferences and disagreements these issues are secondary only to the very reason why we anticipate the results with abated breath. We can exercise restraint in our comments especially those that will make of us Filipinos look like stupid in the eyes of the pageant world. Author: Judging Faux Pax [Edit]	Date Posted: Tue, Nov 17 2009, 19:35:39 let's make one point clear. it's embarasing that we(Philippines) are sweeping all the "minor awards". what ever anyone who is supposedly smart says, okay?!. i mean really. i'm all about nationalism and all but this competition is bordering on becoming a farce. yes, the judges were there. yes, they have a better position choosing a winner in each competition segment. yes they saw the ladies walk down the runway. but so did a lot of people! the question is though, is the judging fair, objective and unbiased. not from the looks of it. why? because "judging" is also very subjective. Ms Philippines already has a home court advantage! come on, let's face it people! let's face it! it's poor judgement bordering on inappropriate even for us to have a sweep of what we all know are the major awards in the prelimenary categories! no offense to Sandra (Ms Phils), it's not her fault that she was put in this position. it's poor judging that is at fault. yes, and that is to blame. for our delegate to win any category means that she is overwhelmingly outstanding in order to overcome any arguments of judging impartiality. so, let me ask all of you who feel otherwise. do you think our delegate is outstanding enough in these two categories (swimsuit and evening gown) for her to have won a both categories besting 80+ stunning delegates? and even if she is just as beautiful as the cream of the crop in this batch, we as the host country, should still have given way to the other outstanding delegates. it is the classy thing to do since we already won previously. in a pageant that "WE" own! it's a reality we need to accept as a host counrtry. sure, once in a while a host country wins, and in those instances,-- the delegates were exceptionally outstanding! Sandra, bless her soul, is not and should not really expect to go beyond being called for the top 8. really. let's get real here. otherwise, the pageant will really loose it's credibility and universal marketability. and for all of you nationalists, you will always feel that our delegate is the best! so put yourselves in other people's shoes. if this was a competition hosted by another country and the exact same thing happened to the host's delegate, would you be feeling just as you are now? i think not! you'd be the first to point the accusing finger at them too! and please, those of you that keep saying that Miss U and Miss World does the same thing. well what are you trying to say? now it's our turn and it's pay back time?!. if that's the case then, quit preaching about how "fair" and "different" our pageant is, because right now, it really isn't. okay, please spare me the senseless rantings of juvenile minds. name calling is not going to put you point across and neither will it make you sound smarter. if you have nothing to say but crap, especially about other delegates, -- keep it to yourself. that's all. Those awards has no bearing to the actual competition. two years ago, Miss Venezuela Silvana Santaella won the same two awards (along with a whole host of sponsors’ prizes), but she didn’t end up winning the grand prize at the end. There are those whose primary motive for posting is to share pageant-related information and in so doing, entertain. There are others who ram their beliefs down your throats with no valid reason but to draw attention to their inflated egos. These low-level types have self-serving agenda to pursue never mind if they are obtrusive to the hilt or abrasive every which way they can to rub on your nerves. The one thing that the latter is capable of is to show-off a flair for dramatics and stir uncontrolled emotions to anger mode. There are posters who remain stubborn and refuse to listen and understand no matter what, will always insist on what he or she wants to think, never mind if what he or she thinks is not based on facts and reality. Our better judgment tells us these types do not represent the entire population of well meaning, thinking, and decent posters out there whose guiding principle is based on goodwill and camaraderie. Posts or comments that border on the obnoxious please ignore. For those who don’t believe, no amount of convincing will sway these posters to our side. It will serve them right if we do not validate, or dignify or even react to their comments. If no one pays attention to what they’re saying then the whining, the faultfinding, and bashing will just suffer to oblivion and a final exit. To the Pinoy supporters out there, in our haste or in defense of Ms Earth and ourselves, we are prone to tactics that reduce our respectability in the eyes of others. Can we just be more circumspect in our praise for Sandra and ensure that we don’t rub on other people’s sensibilities. Enough said. We have shown the world what unity in the face of adversity meant, that we can be united as one when the situation calls for it. Sandra may not be the prettiest delegate in the eyes of her detractors, but she had ably redeemed herself by doing what she believed was her best card to clinch the minor awards. These minor titles were not easily handed to her not in a silver platter, but in a concensus, moreover she did not categorically ask for them without putting a good fight. That alone is a hard pill to swallow particularly among those who had no regard for her capability as a deserving delegate. And worse, what has been decided cannot be undone. Her detractors will have to live and accede to their defeat. I think it is a cool idea to stay calm while being euphoric about Sandra’s minor accomplishment. We believed in her even since the start and let’s soak up the silence of her triumph in a non-offensive celebration. To take on the bait, and be goaded by the opposite avenging camps into a meaningless diatribe will not do us, or Sandra, or the Ms Earth Organization any favour at all. They wouldn't spend lots of money to send a well-prepared candidate just to be treated unfairly, competition-wise. Another consequence for Sandra's win, majority of Miss Earth followers and supporters will turn their backs including sponsors and potential countries who are willing to host Miss Earth in the coming years. The girls are judged all throughout the pageant. There are chaperons, staff, "secret judges", and even bus drivers who are tasked by the organizers to select their top 18. No favoritism from the pageant owners or whatever. The interesting part is that the girls are not aware of who they are. 2.) Special competitions for EVENING GOWN, Photogenic, Swimsuit and other special prizes that happened this past weeks HAS NO BEARING to the actual judging and selection of the top 18. This has happened in the past edition of Miss Earths wherein previous Miss Photogenics, special award winners, etc did not even made it to the top 16. So those whiners and bashers, please stop the sour-grape and wait til the actual pageant on Saturday. 3.) The girls are judged during a special and separate preliminary competition in evening gown, swimsuit and interview. The Girls are mandated NOT TO WEAR MAKE UP. I personally think that this is an awesome idea because Miss Earth is looking for the most natural beauties to be crowned Miss Earth. Each contestant from 80 countries around the world was judged during a "closed-door" preliminaries to select 18 semi finalists, who will vie for the coveted title of Miss Earth 2009. The contestants was scored based on their presentation (with no make-up) in Swimsuit, Evening Gown and Interview.
