Date Posted: Mon, Aug 22 2011, 18:54:51 I think Miss Earth should be held in the USA soon. Make it big in the USA. I think the reason why they have not been able to host it in the USA is because USA does not do well at Miss Earth. They never make the top 4. If USA would place or win Miss Earth then they would want to have it and it would become really popular and with big sponsors. I think that would help Miss Earth become bigger and better. TAKE MISS EARTH PAGEANT TO THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Wed, Aug 17 2011, 6:07:35 'Plastic surgery is not beautiful' says Salma Hayek Read more: http://entertainment.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/08/16/plastic-surgery-is-not-beautiful-says-salma-hayek/#ixzz1VILi3PPh ![]() Salma Hayek may be one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but that doesn’t mean it’s because she went under the knife. Hayek shares her skincare secrets in the September issue of Allure on newsstands on Aug. 23. At 44, the gorgeous actress has learned a thing or two about slowing down the aging process, naturally. “I believe that every woman is entitled to fight to preserve her youth,” she tells Allure. But that doesn’t mean she supports plastic surgery – it’s quite the opposite. “It’s like the uniform of a generation,” Hayek says about the fascination with going under the knife. “And it’s not necessarily beautiful,” she says. “It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful.” Hayek confesses that she’s never gone that route. “I’ve never had anything done on my face,” she claims. “I’ve never had dermabrasion or peels or injections of any kind, nothing.” ![]() In order to maintain her beauty and encourage others to do the same, Hayek is launching a skincare line “Nuance” that will be available at CVS pharmacies. “I’m [creating this line] with the philosophy that within you there is beauty, and you have to learn how to find it and enhance it in a natural way,” she explains. “One thing that is exciting about being a woman is that you can rediscover your beauty over and over and over.” The “Desperado” star is embracing her skin and her sexuality as she approaches 50. “As a woman, you should be more at ease with your sexuality when you are in your 40s,” she says. “You are more self-assured about that part. And that’s the way it should be.” But there is one part about her that she swears isn’t the same as it was 10 years ago. “My boobs,” she says. “They’re not bad, by the way. I’m not complaining about them.” ![]() [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Wed, Aug 17 2011, 6:44:03 A heart of gold lands Hart in hall By HAROLD CARMICHAEL, THE SUDBURY STAR A Greater Sudbury woman who played a pivotal role in the organizing and holding of the annual Miss Northern Ontario Pageant for more than two decades is going to have the spotlight all to herself at a national event in Montreal this week. Jeanne (Joan) Hart will be inducted into the Canadian Pageant Hall of Fame at the conclusion of the Miss Earth Canada 2011 Pageant on Friday. Hart would have received the award last November, but her husband's poor health prevented her from travelling and receiving the honour. "They were going to do it, just the award," said Hart. "They had some 250 people invited from all across Canada who I knew. It was going to be all by itself." Hart was then going to receive the award first in February, and then in April, at the conclusion of two different pageants, but her husband's health issue remained. With her husband now better, Hart is ready to receive the honour. "It is too good to be true," she said. "This is a celebration of success. It recognizes all those years, what I learned in my book, and all the work. This is really a great honour." The book Hart referred to is Pageants -- a 67-page book she wrote in 1998 that provides myriad advice to pageant contestants. It features "everything you could think of with pageants," she said. More than 5,000 copies of the book have been sold. An induction into the hall occurs only every five years. The first induction was in 1970. Out of the 100 names nominated for the latest induction, Hart received 42 votes. Hart was president and coordinator of the Miss Northern Ontario Canada Pageant for more than 25 years, finally relinquishing the reins in 2002 to take on the post of president of NSEW -- the North, South, East, West Canada Pageant, an association that involves all the former Miss Canada Pageants. "We are like a promoter," explained Hart. "We try to get involved with directors at each event (pageant). It's for exchanging ideas, fundraising purposes." Hart could not take on the new position without relinquishing her old one. "I had to give up the Miss North Ontario Pageant I was involved in for 29 years," she said. "It was a tough decision." But for Hart, the volunteer part-time post was a chance to take all of the knowledge and expertise she had built up during her decades of involvement in pageants in Northern Ontario and apply it nationally. Those duties include working with the Miss Universe Canada Pageant, the Miss Earth Canada Pageant and all the Northern Ontario pageants. Even with being inducted into the Canadian Pageant Hall of Fame, Hart doesn't plan to stop her involvement in the pageant field. "It's been 36 years now," she said. "I'm not going to (stop). I am really, really busy. And I judge all of the pageants. I just spent a week in June at the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. I'm not done yet." A certified judge, Hart has judged more than 300 pageants around the globe. The Capreol, North Bay and now Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageants, incidentally, all have an award that pays tribute to Joan Hart. With the Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant, the "Crown, Banner and Flowers" award goes to the contestant best exemplifying respect for all, personality, confidence, presence and dedication to the pageant industry. Hart also served as a technical consultant for the 2003 ABC television movie Beautiful Girl. In addition to pageants, Hart is also known for two very unique sock collections. One involves celebrity socks (she has one that belonged to the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan), while the other features some 500 Christmas stockings from around the world. hcarmichael@thesudburystar.com [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Mon, Aug 15 2011, 18:43:56 Thailand: Next Miss Earth destination by Giovanni Paolo J. Yazon A FLAMBOYANT showcase of Thailand’s diverse culture, tourist spots as well as efforts to preserve and protect the environment are what devotees of the Miss Earth pageant will expect this year. Carousel Productions Inc. president Ramon Monzon and executive vice president Lorraine Shuck, at a press conference held in Discovery Suites last week, announced that the 11th edition of the Miss Earth “will air live” from Pattaya on Nov. 12. The eco-friendly pageant organization chose this self-governing municipal area in Thailand as the venue of Miss Earth tilt instead of staging it again in Nha Trang, Vietnam, because Pattaya offers more than just “naughty nightlife” and beaches. Countless attractions, both natural and man-made, are worth visiting. Monzon said they will work together with PD Creation, an event management company based in Bangkok, known for its vast experience in handling major productions, to come up with yet another world-class TV special. “We hope that [with their help] we will be able to carry out the pageant’s mission and get more people involved with our cause,” he said. Ninety countries have already confirmed their participation in competition. “We have received a lot of favorable feedbacks from different franchise organizers,” Shuck added, “they are very excited to send their delegates and share their respective environmental advocacies.” The Philippine beauty to this year’s Miss Earth pageant is Athena Mae Imperial, 24, from Casiguran, Aurora, who works as a researcher for GMA-7’s investigative news program Researcher’s Notebook. The “smiley icon,” which echoes Thailand’s image as the land of smiles, will be integrated to the pageant’s overall theme on celebrating the International Year of the Forests. With calamities being experienced in various parts of the world because of forest depletion, Monzon and Schuck wish that this year’s Miss Earth “will get the global community involved in bringing back smiles to people from all walks of life by underscoring the importance of saving and protecting the environment.” Of course the event would not be complete without the presence of reigning Miss Earth Nicole Faria of India as well as her runners-up Viktoria Shchukina of Russia (Miss Air) and Thailand’s Watsaporn Wattanakoon (Miss Water). Carousel Productions appointed Shchukina, one of the 15 semifinalists, as the new Miss Air after its original runner-up Jennifer Pazmino of Ecuador resigned due to her marriage with her fiancé last February. Earth’s brightest gem Nicole Faria had an aura that captivated everyone she met during the press conference. “Effortlessly lovely” was how a lot of pageant journalists described the 21-year-old freelance model and psychology major. She is the second child of Ian, a motivational speaker and of Anita, a finishing school lecturer. She has an elder brother named Craig who is into the real estate industry. She equated winning India’s first Miss Earth crown to becoming a national hero: “The warm and exciting homecoming events in Bengaluru and Mumbai were indeed touching and emotional for me. People took me very seriously as Miss Earth, they looked up to me and I felt that I really belong to everyone! I could never have imagined how this victory would have improved my stature and positioning in my own country.” And having invited at a grand dinner hosted by Indian Consul General Shri Abhay Thakur was “a sensational experience” that she will forever cherish. Becoming the “face” of a lake-cleaning project in Bangalore was one of her greatest accomplishments as Miss Earth. “Since the theme of my pageant last year was about conservation of water, it [the project] was something very dear to me. I went to the United States [and collaborated with people to further common causes, right now] I am getting funds from San Francisco and Washington DC, from the Sherwood Institute and United Way. They’re both funding us to clean our lakes. It’s a long-term process no doubt: the water is dirty, stinky and not pristine. But apparently there are new species of birds and butterflies [now], so I am really happy.” Does she ever get tired of dirtying her hands for Mother Earth? “I traveled so much, met so many people and only stayed in India for two months, but I never had complaints at all. I guess waking up early in the morning to do something good for the environment always make me feel good. But if there’s something I don’t like, I wish I could keep my high heels off and go for a massage [very often],” she grinned. Faria wanted to stay longer in the country to visit different parks and beaches. “I’ve seen video footages and photos of Puerto Princesa, it’s magnificent and I think it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth! I will bring my family there when I come back here. Philippines is so much like India, the people are warm and hospitable. I noticed that everyone’s smiling. I feel like I don’t really miss home when I am here. “The food [here] is nice, there’s this [something] with fried rice, fried eggs and beef that I really like.” Nicole was actually referring to our tapsilog. She also learned a few Tagalog words like “mabuhay, salamat po, magandang umaga, and Ikaw na!” which is the latest expression that Filipino gays say when one is an epitome of something, but in an ironic way. Miss Earth 2005 Alexandra Braun Waldeck of Venezuela was romantically linked to erstwhile actor Carlos Morales during her reign, while Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles of Brazil just got married to actor-TV host John Estrada last March. Could the “unattached” Indian goddess also fall in love with a Filipino guy in the future? “I love the product of two people who are completely mixed. Their babies are so good looking. I think majority of Filipinos are of mixed roots. I have a lot of time to think about that. I’ll be back here in the Philippines, we’ll see.” Top [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Fri, Aug 12 2011, 1:46:00 MANILA, Philippines - Now recuperating from stab wounds reportedly inflicted by a tenant in a condo building where she’s staying, 2008 Ms. Earth Karla Paula Henry recalled how it all happened. “He didn’t stop, as in he continued pa until I started screaming na. That’s when he stopped and ran upstairs,” the beauty queen recounted in her exclusive interview aired on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Aug. 11. ![]() Reports said that Karla Paula was allegedly stabbed from behind with a broken bottle on Aug. 11 by a suspect identified as Jerome Quibuyen. The beauty queen was about to get into the elevator that time. “Namukhaan ko talaga siya kasi he changed his shirt. I know it so well and I know his face,” Karla Paula stressed. The suspect, who is now being held in jail for frustrated murder charges, explained in the same “SNN” episode that he was “nakatambay” when the incident happened. Asked why he is being jailed, Jerome replied, “Ako ‘yung suspek nila, eh, kasi ako ‘yung nakita.” Josyli Tabajonda, Mandaluyong Prosecution attorney, explained that “we’re still studying the case.” “I’m going to evaluate the documents submitted to me by the security guard as well as the salaysay that was given by the complainant before the police officer of the Mandaluyong Police Station.” Karla Paula, who is now recuperating at the St. Luke’s Global City hospital in Taguig City, is the first Filipina and Asian to win the Ms. Earth beauty pageant. Date Posted: Wed, Aug 10 2011, 3:42:22 ![]() I was a latecomer to loving Cebu, as it was only in the early ‘90s that I started visiting and enjoying what it offered in abundance — wonderful resorts, creative talents, delicious food and hospitable people who were very service oriented. So many positives that made this province tops in tourism, exports, business, design and fashion. The Cebuano “can do” attitude is amazing and I wish all Filipinos could emulate them to help us go forward in the current global market. It was a double treat as there was a fun show produced by DMC International’s Rajan Guidwani to watch the famous classic rock ‘n’ roll band Gerry and the Pacemakers in Cebu and Manila. I loved the ‘60s songs that included Ferry, Cross the Mersey and the ever-popular You’ll Never Walk Alone. During their peak, Brian Epstein managed both Gerry and the Beatles, so these two formidable British bands dominated the international record charts in the 1960s. An added bonus was the performance of Chip Hawkes of the Tremoloes, who made the song Silence is Golden reverberate in that same era. The Philippines was ably represented by the youthful and energetic Bloomfields, my music icon and husband, RJ Jacinto, and The Rockin’ 60s. They were able to make the crowd dance, sing along and head down memory lane with wild abandon. As the evening ended, one could see the audience leaving both venues smiling and singing their favorite songs that brought happy memories of their youth. Staying at the 2.3-hectare resort in Plantation Bay located in Mactan, Cebu was pleasurable with the smiling staff and relaxed ambience. Consistently rated by the prestigious magazine Conde Nast as one of the “Top 20 Resorts in Asia,” I loved my room by the saltwater lagoon as we could swim there any time of the day or night. This place even offers the best burgers and chili con carne that made me gladly break my usual non-carnivorous diet. Another plus is a visit to their Mogambo Spa as the foot reflexology and hilot massages were most outstanding. Judith, my therapist, was able to take out all the kinks and aches in my back and neck that had given me problems for months. Just for that, I was tempted to stay another day to savor another hilot session. ![]() It was an evening of high fashion and unrelenting passion for saving the environment when the Miss Earth Foundation recently staged Fashion Forest at Discovery Suites in Ortigas Center with the beautiful Miss Earth 2010 titleholders and the past and present winners of Miss Philippines-Earth. The show capped the multifarious activities lined up for the Philippine visit of the 2010 winners — India’s Nicole Faria, Miss Earth 2010, Thailand’s Watsaporn Wattanakoon and Russia’s Victoria Shchukina Miss Earth Air 2010. The show shifted to high gear when four of the country’s sought-after couturiers showcased their collections: Eric Pineda, Noel Crisostomo, Ronaldo Arnaldo and Frederick Policarpio. The clothes were beautifully modeled by Miss Philippines Earth 2011 Athena Mae Imperial and her court as well as past beauty queens who are still head turners. This Philippine tour paves the way for the much-awaited Miss Earth 2011 pageant which will be held on Nov. 12 in Pattaya, Thailand. http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=715107&publicationSubCategoryId=83 [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Sat, Aug 06 2011, 8:44:26 Miss Earth, the environment-themed beauty pageant, comes to Thailand later this year, marking only the second time in its decade-long history that it's been held outside the Philippines, the country of its birth. Last year, Vietnam won the bid to host the pageant created in 2001 by Carousel Productions to promote environmental awareness. ![]() "Miss Earth is much more than just a beauty pageant, it's also an international environmental campaign," says Wanthanabhadee Jittanukroh, the CEO of the organisers PD Creation, in an interview after the press conference for Miss Earth 2011 at the Kirimaya Resort in Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima. "We fought hard against China to win the chance to hold the 10th edition of Miss Earth. I think Carousel chose us on the basis of the several activities we have planned to support the contest. These activities will take place in four regions of Thailand: the North, South, the north-east and in Pattaya, each of which shows different aspects of Thailand's environment to the world. "At first, we worried about the support of the government, especially given the current political situation. But this project is concerned with environmental protection. It's also an international event that will include a tribute to His Majesty the King on the occasion of his 84th birthday anniversary. We usually organise an activity, 'Khon Thai Jai Phakdi', for the King every year and this year, we'll be drawing the attention of people all over the world to his abilities. He is the only royal to have received the International Merit Award, an award for environmental preservation, in recognition of his theory about ya faek [vetiver grass]." As the licence holder and organiser, PD Creation is investing Bt150 million in the management of Miss Earth 2011, which takes place in Pattaya in November and will see the participation of contestants from more than 80 countries. The concept for 2011 is "Smile for Earth, for All". "Our world is crying because we don't take care of it. The world's tears are flooding us. When the world moves, it shakes us up. Thailand is the Land of Smiles, so it's time for us to send smiles to people who are suffering. Our activities will make the world smile again,", Wanthanabhadee explains. This year, one of the activities is "Reality Earth". "A big problem in the North is pollution. We'll be taking the contestants up in a helicopter and we want them to behave like reporters, making a live telecast that will be aired in their own countries. "The contestants will also take an oath to work on environmental conservation wherever they are in the world. That oath will be valid for one year. This is a departure from previous years, which have focused only on four winners: Miss Earth, Miss Earth Air, Miss Earth Water and Miss Earth Fire," says the young CEO. "Our aim is to make Thai people much more aware of the environment." Last year, singer Ronan Keating was the special guest of Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam. Who is PD Creation inviting for the Thailand event? "All I'm prepared to say right know is that it will be someone who is very important. We haven't selected an artist based on his popularity but on what he does," says Wanthanabhadee. "This year, we will make Miss Earth greater than in previous years and, most importantly, promote the image of Miss Earth, who is also a United Nations Environment Programme ambassador, in taking the environmental campaign to the world." The 11th Miss Earth pageant will be held on November 12 in Pattaya. The reigning Miss Earth has a passion for the planet. Indian model Nicole Faria has devoted her reign as Miss Earth 2010 to environmental causes. She's called on people to help prevent destruction of the environment - for themselves and the future generations - stressing that the earth can survive without humans but humans cannot survive without a healthy earth. The 21-year-old native of Bangalore was involved in environmental causes even before joining last year's Miss Earth pageant in Vietnam. These included promoting ecofriendly fabrics among women in her country. "I believe in karma. What you give, you get back. You give to Mother Earth and Mother Earth gives back to you," she said. Chatting with local reporters at the recent press conference at a hotel in Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Faria said that she would continue with her work for the environment even after she passed on the Miss Earth title to this year's winner. "This is my baby in a cradle and I need to protect it for as long as I live. I will do a lot more than I am doing now, for the rest of my life," she said. As the Miss Earth titleholder, Faria also is an ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme. In India, she's began a cleanup campaign for lakes in Bangalore. She won an award in Mumbai for her ecofriendly initiative to save some lakes there. She's also promoted rainwater harvesting through roof funnel pipes, cycle rickshaws and solar energy, among other projects, to help create a better environment. http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Diva/Story/A1Story20110806-293076/2.html [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Fri, Aug 05 2011, 2:49:20 Thai lawmakers vote Yingluck Shinawatra as premier ![]() BANGKOK — Thai lawmakers have officially chosen Yingluck Shinawatra as the country’s first female prime minister. The lower house of Parliament voted Friday to elect the 44-year-old businesswoman to the post, with 296 of the legislature’s 500 members voting in Yingluck’s favor. Three members voted against and 197 abstained. The vote comes a month after Yingluck’s party won a landslide victory in Thailand’s July 3 elections. Yingluck will become Thailand’s 28th prime minister, and the fifth since her brother Thaksin Shinawatra was toppled in a 2006 military coup. Before Yingluck can officially assume power, King Bhumibol Adulyadej must endorse her in a separate ceremony expected within days. http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/36777/thai-lawmakers-vote-yingluck-shinawatra-as-premier [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Thu, Aug 04 2011, 23:12:48 ![]() Hey everyone! My name is Nicole Kelley, I am 21 years old and I am a proud Gator and resident of Gainesville, Florida. The road here has been a long and interesting one but it would be nothing without the support of my family and friends. I am very honored to be the new Miss Alachua County and plan on leaving big shoes to fill for my successor. This is going to be a year to remember for me. I know that the only way to represent my title is to be a spokesperson for my community. Through participation in community events like Project Makeover, and Relay for life, and for my platform of Agriculture in the Classroom, I hope to gain the respect and admiration from my community. I truly feel that the only way to feel a part of a community is to go out into it and make a difference. In July I hope to make my family and community proud as I represent my new hometown in the Miss Florida USA pageant. I plan to prepare as much as possible to make my mark among the many talented and beautiful girls that I will compete against. Previously, I attended Flagler Palm Coast High School where I graduated as part of the first class of International Baccalaureate scholars in our school. There I also had the honor of participating in the National Honor Society, the FFA of which I was the president for 2 years; I also was part of the Leo's club, and the Student Government Association. I have also been dancing for about 17 years now and have learned much about myself as a result. I've now moved to Gainesville for school at the University of Florida where I am majoring in Food and Resource Economics with a specialization in International Policy. I am also working toward 3 minors including Spanish, International Humanitarian Assistance, and Agriculture and Natural Resource Law. One day I hope to be able to use all of this to advocate for our US Agriculture industry as an international trade policy lawyer. Now, at the University of Florida I am lucky to be part of a wonderful group of girls called Floridance, a student run dance company that works very hard to put on 2 productions a year as well as fundraising and charity work. Where would I be without you girls? Recently I joined the Gator Collegiate Cattlewomen's club which I am also very excited about. When I am not attending class or working, I enjoy spending time at the beach in my home town, camping, or pretty much doing anything outside. I also enjoy shopping, going to baseball games and learning how to sew. I have a very busy schedule, but it keeps me sane! Chelsee, thank you so much for making this pageant what it is, it truly has been one of the best experiences for me and I am so excited and proud to be part of your team. To all our past sister queens without your help and participation this pageant wouldn't be what it is. Sincerely, thank you. To my new sister queens, I am very excited to have you at my side, I know you all will make me proud! With love, Nicole Kelley Miss Alachua County USA 2011 http://www.missnorthcentralflusa.com/8.html [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
