If you believe a comment has been made about you that is libelous, please contact us and we can discuss the issue. What is defamation, libel and slander?
Whether you are the victim of internet defamation or being wrongfully accused of internet defamation, you need to understand the law. In order for a comment, post or article to constitute internet libel, the following elements must typically be met:

The first thing you must prove is that the statement constitutes a false statement of fact. A fact is different than an opinion. A fact can be proven true or false. Opinions are typically not actionable as defamation. The false statement of fact must harm your reputation. There are many false statements posted across the internet. In order to constitute libel, a statement must not only be false but must harm you or your company’s reputation and cause harm.

The false statement of fact causing harm must be made without adequate due diligence or research into the truthfulness of the statement. Alternatively, plaintiffs often attempt to prove that the false statement of fact was made with full knowledge of its falsity.

If the person who is the subject of the false statement of fact is a celebrity or public official, the plaintiff must also prove “malice.” Malice is proven when the person posting the information on the internet intended to do harm or acted with reckless disregard of the truth in making the statements.

There is often confusion about the differences between defamation, libel and slander. In many ways, courts treat defamation on the internet similar to off-line defamation. But there are differences which you need to understand when the false statements are made on-line.

Defamation: An unprivileged false statement of fact which tends to harm the reputation of a person or company. This is a catch-all term for both libel and slander.

Libel: Defamation which is written such as on a web site. Most on-line defamation occurs through libel by posting a web page, comment, bulletin board post, review, rating or blog post.

Slander: Defamation that is spoken such as through an transcribed video, podcast or audio file.

Subject: Thank goodness for the new Miss Il board. Wish the housecleaning was complete though. An ex director from the MAO is now running a local fair pageant. Seems like more of the old Illinois antics. Does anyone find it to be a conflict of interest that Meg Basco, DAUGHTER of co-director Julie Basco wins the Miss Junior McHenry County title under director Lovena Hunter??? Feel for the other girls competing. Little did they know. C'mon Illinois, no more room for controversial pageant outcomes.

The directors brought in a judges panel that they probably know. I'm not saying that Meg didn't deserve to win, but the directors should eliminate as much as possible any appearance of impropriety or conflict of interest. This is why there are rules about this in other systems. Whether Meg's name is here or not, people can google this and find her name. This isn't about Meg anyway. I agree about the appearance of impropriety or conflict of interest. You are incorrect that they can google this and find her name whether it is fully listed or not. If her last name is not listed, it will not come up in a google search for her. I would appreciate it if the moderators would remove her last name. USA National Miss is open to girls ages 4-25 to compete in evening gown, interview, runway fashion and optionals. Winners go on to compete at nationals to represent Illinois for a chance to win thousands of dollars in cash, prizes and scholarships. Our pageant will be held January 18-20, 2019 at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. It is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin pageant. We will crown 6 girls from each state plus one People's Choice winner. That means we will crown 13 girls to go to nationals!! National website USANationalmiss.com

I will be hosting an Open Call/Information Session on October 13th from 10-Noon at the Hilton Garden Inn Hoffman Estates for those who would like more information.

The Miss looks to have a good group of experienced girls. Gini Melchiorri is now blond, Haley Duden and Stephanie Dearwester are competing. Both are county fair queens and Dearwester did well at MAO this year and was a finalist at MICF. Alexandra Poltz was Miss Illinois Teen USA 2012. I know I have seen Angel Rayes around as well.

Where to begin.. when my daughter was her titleholder she was very difficult. Demanded that she choose her wardrobe, and made me pay for everything even though my daughter and I did not like any of the clothes she chose. Her character is absolutely your business if your daughter is competing, but demanding honesty about the details of her private life is not. Be clear I am not defending her, but it's one thing to make a judgment call on her character and say "I've heard too many things about her to allow my daughter anywhere near her." My biggest problem, is that even after I have asked her multiple times to stop contacting my daughter she doesn't stop. She reaches out to her on her phone, through Facebook, and has even asked others what my daughters problem is with her. As a 40 something year old woman you should not be harassing a child!
