Oh, yes! The decline in contestant quality has nothing to do with the way the program has been run for the past nine years. Give me a break! There were plenty of quality contestants at state this year. This titleholder is just a symptom of the problem that has plagued our system. Illinois managed to eek out two top tens in the past 9 years, and that's it. The days of Illinois being a competitive state need to be rebuilt from scratch. Crystal isn't any worse than some of the other titleholders that have been sent to Miss America over the past 9 years, and I say that as someone who's seen them all. She may not be your choice for Miss illinois, but so what? Give it a rest. And as for all of those "lies and deep dark secrets" I do not accept something posted on a voy board as proof. And who are you that anyone should provide proof to you or care what you think? Or that anyone should give it a rest because you said so? Fortunately for me, I don't really care if you take these assertions seriously or not. I can claim responsibility for only one of the above posts. So the idea that it's only one person who is aware of the ways in which Crystal embellished (or whatever) her education or platform is simply not true. Let's be honest, most of the world doesn't care about Miss America, much less Miss Illinois, so it's understandable people would come here to talk about it. However, to act as though the last 9 were unworthy because only two made the cut is one of the dumbest things I've read on this board. They all did a fantastic job as titleholders, despite the daily drama that they had to deal with just to be Miss Illinois. Many had the potential to do well, but who knows what went on that may have affected their preparation. Amalia was notorious for talking badly about her own contestant to Miss America before they even got to nationals.
