I somehow screwed up the passport link in the original posting, but this one (above) seems to work. Viewing the passport application, one can see the ink smear at the top of the "8" at 5'8". I came to the same conclusion as JESSE until I found the 1915 passenger list for his arrival in NYC. This CLEARLY says "5'6" so I concluded that the "smeared 8" was actually a "smeared 6". I didn't find the 1915 passenger list at FamilySearch.org but found it at Ancestry.com. I usually try to use links for free sites like FS to make it easier for others who don't have $$ subscriptions and I usually make snips of pay site information for DAVE's perusal as I'm not able to post them here. I will snip the info from the 1915 list and DAVE can decide. We know that JEAN was a very good actor and I concluded that in 1942 he "ACTED" like he was 5'9 1/2"! (LOL). I had also found the 1942 Draft Card but discounted it in light of the other info. He made other overseas trips but I didn't find any other ships' passenger lists and they don't always have "height" information. If someone finds other "height sources" for JEAN that show his height other than 5'6", I'll consider a "preponderance of evidence" and the closer to his birth, the better (excluding childhood).
