Madeline (or “Nan,” as her sister called her) was the daughter of Robert A. McGowan (Anthony Mack), making her the grand niece of Robert F. McGowan.

I got to know Nan’s sister Mickie a bit shortly before she passed away. Mickie insisted that “Forgotten Babies” was actually directed by their dad, despite Bob F. getting the credit. Studio documentation seems to back this up - well, more specifically, that he directed most of it. Bob F. did the rest, I’m guessing. She told me that this was an ongoing issue between the two Bob McGowans - the uncle taking credit for shorts his nephew helmed. They would often share duties during the late silent run too.
