Born: Glenn Roger Mickens,
......City of Monterey Pk., Wilmar*, Los Angeles County,
......California, United States of America.
*sources below has both copies of his Birth Certificate. One .gives Monterey Pk. as city of birth and Wilmar as the registration district. The second copy has them reversed.
In his 1950 pro-baseball "questionnaire" he states that he was born in "Wilmar", CA.
From his LA Times obituary:".....Glenn pitched professionally for 15 years, including a short stint with the National League Champion Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953 and roomed with fellow Bruin Jackie Robinson while at Montreal and Brooklyn. He spent his last 5 seasons as an active player in the Japanese League."Mick" retried from coaching at UCLA in 1989 and has resided with his wife Ruth in Kapaa, Hawaii ever since. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, his son, Scott, and his daughter, Shaun." Ruth was his second wife, the first being Janet Curry (m.03 Mar 1956).
A "blurb" in the "Big Spring TX Daily Herald" 22 April 1952:
"If you saw the movie musical 'On Moonlight Bay' featuring Doris Day, you saw Glen Mickens, the Brooke (Army Medical Center) hurler, who pitched against the Broncs the other night. Mickens, a movie extra who played bit roles of soldiers in every war in which the US has fought before he ever became one, was in the ball-playing scene with Miss Day."
Glenn spent 2 years in the US Army Medical Corps and was discharged in May of 1953.
NOTE: Glenn's obituary at Legacy.com has a guest book and memorial page. I submitted a request for anyone to post a photo of Glenn as a "youngster" at that site or with Lordheath.com for his "Hall of Fame Page". Neither the obituary nor two long form interviews with Glenn mention his acting experiences. The IMDb doesn't list him for "On Moonlight Bay" so this is exclusive to ANM.
