Getting a spanking was to me one of the worst things in the world and being the oldest of my siblings I was supposed to be the one who was supposed to show the way and being spanked over moms knee was not supposed to happen to me but it did. Saying I was sorry and promising not to do it again usually ended as my pants were being pulled down and was about to go over moms knee and seeing the hairbrush that was about to be used on my poor bottom. My spankings were not pre-determined mom spanked until she felt the lesson had been learned.

Being the oldest I tried not to cry but it never worked and was crying very soon after the spanking began.

Us sibs were all sympathetic to the one who had been spanked. Yes we all knew the spanking had been given and we knew why and were warned that if we repeated that misbehavior we would suffer the same consequences. Yet we would go off to another part of the house or out in the yard with our freshly spanked sibling and try to calm him/her down. When we all felt better we resumed playing or doing what we wanted but usually as a group.
