I am only guessing but I think that kids in larger families need to be better behaved than only children because as Susan mentions, the oldest is expected to set a good example for the younger siblings. When that example is not set, not only is it a problem in itself but it can escalate when the younger sibs engage in copy-cat behavior.

So, here is a very important question: do parents with more than one child raise children more strictly? Stricter standards are almost inevitably going to lead to more spankings. Here is the deeper question:

Do children from larger families also get harder spankings?

I suspect a certain answer here but in the interest of honesty and science, I will not say what I am conjecturing. What do you think? Is it true that the bigger the family, the harder are parental spankings?

Even for an only like me, getting it was, as Susan go aptly writes, "...one of the worst things in the world ..." and something I was totally afraid of. There was nothing that was forbidden that I would have regarded as so attractive that it was worth doing even though a spanking followed it. If it was a spankable offense, I didn't do it. I got nervier when I joined boys clubs but at home, I never deliberately put my delicate rear on the line!

I really like what Susan said about carrying on even though your spanking was still stinging at nearly full strength and not diminished at all. I did not have siblings to comfort and distract me. If they didn't laugh and tease or ask dumb questions about whether you were still feeling it or whether "it hurt?", then having a comforting sibling would have been great. Did you ever compare bottoms when more than one got it?
