If you bent the little black plastic thing with the upper disk head on it too much, it won't work at all any more. It is essentially a copper spring, and the tension in it is what makes the head contact the disk when you insert it. A few years ago (back when a floppy disk was actually worth something!) I did this and ruined it. grr. I tried to unscrew the little bracket that held the spring down (T7, if you need to know) but only broke the screw heads off, so I couldn't at least try to rebend it.

Take it out again and look at it when you insert a disk--does the head move down enough to contact it?
