Subject: The Tennessee victory was in 1934. Fordham finished 5-3 that season in what was a rebuilding year. That is why I didn't include any of the 1934 wins on the list. Many of the great players who were integral players on the great '36 and '37 "Seven Blocks of Granite" teams were freshmen or sophomores on the '34 team. A sophomore lineman by the name of Lombardi makes his first featured, individually pictured appearance in the 1934 Purdue game day program. A copy of that program may be the most valuable Fordham sports collectible in existence.

In reply to: OldRam 's message, "Interesting stuff. I think that the Rams' greatest victory is still considered to be the one over a great Tennessee team circa 1933. All of these games were before my time except the '39 game vs. Pitt. I was all of seven at the time but what I remember is that in the 4th Q Pitt was on our two ready to go in for the tying score. We made them fumble and Vince Dennery picked it up and ran it back 98 yds for a score. Incidentally, the NY Giants have an annual scholarship given out in Denerry's name." on 13:36:43 04/14/05 Thu

Not to quibble...you say a "rebuilding year." But isn't that what makes for a great victory...when they are unexpected, when you are overcoming the odds? We're talking about great wins here, not great seasons. (NT)OldRam16:05:15 04/14/05 Thu
