All Ivies and A-10 teams have been approached and have rejected scheduling us. 3 seniors have applied for an extra year to the NCAA- believe Eddie Gordon and Conroy. Sorry I forget the 3rd but all very good players for us. Targeted 27 and nabbed 23. Opening clips were of O-lineman, all OTs. Kids were rangy and Coach felt that they each could top out at 310-315 lbs. One kid in particular Sarabaez is Prepping this year so he should be a little further along from a maturity perspective and may contribute sooner than the others. He also showed good footwork for a big guy. The safeties are tall and can hit and the one CB (sorry, forget his name) had offers from Northern Illinois and one other fairly big program. That's the main reason the Paterson Catholic lineman became enamored with Stanford and Indiana, programs from Bowl Championship Series conferences. "If you're one of the top offensive linemen in New Jersey, people sort of expect you go to sign with a big-name school," Robinson said. "If you don't, there's talk that maybe you aren't as good as people say you are." He paused, then added: "So yeah, I worried about what people would think if I didn't go to a big-name school. Maybe they'd think I wasn't that good." Only after a visit to Lafayette did Robinson gain some clarity during the clouded and crazed recruiting process. As much as Robinson is a student of the game, he also has been a student in the classroom. The coaches recruiting him to Stanford and Indiana were fired. Western Michigan, a Division I-A program without much of a reputation, came out of nowhere to enter the race. He strongly considered Hofstra, too, before finally settling on Lafayette, a Division I-AA school from the non-athletic scholarship Patriot League, simply because it was the right fit. "For a while, I was worried about what everyone else would think and not how I felt," said Robinson, who will play defense in college. "I want to play football, but I want a good education, too, and I think I can get both [at Lafayette]. "I don't know what I'm going to do after football, but what comes next is important to me, too." Don't wait until May or June, do it today! Apparently FU is not as desirable opponent as Howard or the Citadel from a Princeton perspective. Another reason to consider moving from the PL as the Ivy ties are ebbing for us. Repoted today in our local paper.... Princeton has scheduled future games with both Hampton and the Citadel. Home with HU in '07 and at HU in '11. At the Citadel in '08 and home with them in '09. A bit on Sarabaez: He�s from Westfield, MA and attended Holyoke High School (Class of 2004) where he played tight end and was twice named All-Western Massachusetts. He�s in prep school this year at Bridgeton Academy (MA). His �College Choices� in 2004 were listed as Boston College, Syracuse, Virginia, UConn, Michigan State, and Marshall. My understanding is that offensive linemen tend to be larger than defensive linemen. Defensive linemen have to be quicker and more explosive while OL's clear holes and make it hard to get around them. 40 pounds or about 17% larger? That I don't know. One thing many of us have noted is that historically our OL's were smaller than many of the opposing DL's on the best teams we faced. On a side note, I met Jumbo Elliot the other night, and even slimmed down from his fighting weight, he is BIG man! (NT) -- Ram '91, 11:12:01 02/04/05 Fri I think DL weight is fine.. Subject: I got the scoop on our FieldTurf

I first spoke to the area rep, then the contractor doing the installation at Jack Coffey Field. We�re getting an all green field (i.e., blank field) -- exactly what�s installed at Giants Stadium. Field markings will be painted on the field with removable paint. The cost of the machine that paints and removes the markings (which Fordham bought) is between $30,000 and $40,000. It�s a 6-12 hour process to remove the markings of one sport and install the markings of another. Soccer can be played on the field on a Friday and football on Saturday. I was told Fordham chose the blank field because according to NCAA regulations, soccer cannot be played on a field with football markings. I never watched a Metro Stars game, but he told me if you look closely, you could make out the football markings -- barely. Patriot League wanted us and then, Manhattan took a spot in another conference and ended up in tournament with huge national exposure in just three ( 3 ) years. With new field turf, this is a NO BRAINER. Lacrosse plays @ 8 home games, thats it. Recruiting would be minimal in cost, it would entail getting in your car and driving to Chaminade, St. Anthony's , Holy Trinity, Bishop Kellenberg Ward Melville and Massapequa. Lacrosse is a great fit. Baseball is dismal right now, although it has a long history at Fordham, nobody ever goes to the games. Lacrosse is doable, would give unprecedented national exposure and the combination of talent within arms reach in Long Island & Westchester , with our academic reputation, makes this a win-win. I am neutral as to lacrosse, however, what we do not need is yet another sport that is initiated and then left to fend for itself. Only recently did the fball program become respectable and now we are on the way to respectability in basketball. Only the administration knows why we need to have an interim coach in baseball, Women's basketball is a train wreck. These are sports that supposedly the administration is paying attention to. The stadium is home to the school's field hockey, track, and soccer programs. At present, Richmond football plays its home games at the University of Richmond Stadium, a 21,319-seat, off-campus facility owned by the city and leased to the University. (FYI, the University owns the land the stadium sits on.) However, there is a proposal to move all home games on campus to First Market Stadium by 2007 after the construction of an approximately 9,000-seat grandstand (with new locker rooms underneath) and a two-story brick structure that includes a press box, eight luxury suites, and a room for university functions. I've never been to a Metro Stars game, but in game highlights I've seen on TV I don't recall seeing Giants/Jets insignia or football markings (yard lines, hash marks, etc.) on the field. The Montreal Alouettes want permanent football lines, to avoid hassle. The Canadian Soccer Association wants the field left blank - or to have permanent soccer lines, within which temporary football markings could be added when needed - so it can win FIFA approval to use the stadium for internationals. With FieldTurf's patent-pending process of installing and removing sport-specific field markings, it will be simple for Giants Stadium to host a soccer game on a Saturday night, and a football game on Sunday.
