I read an article that noted the A10 schools w/ existing CAA affiliations will play CAA football in '07, along w/ the other A10 schools (URI, Nova, etc.).. So effectively, the existing A10 will simply be playing under a new conference? Richmond shunned the PL, but I thought a few of the other schools were rethinking their football status (Nova, W&M, etc.)... Does the PL still have a chance to snag one of these schools or is it a lost cause? W&M, etc. would be a great fit for the PL and probably would be a best choice as a PL fit vs. some of the other names kicked around...

W&M was one of the original Colonial League (later Patriot League) teams in 1986 but would not drop scholarships and never joined. No other teams are in the mix to leave right now. Where do you get that info from? If they didn't take every single A10 team I may agree with you, but that league is full now. Plus, why would Hofstra ... a full sport CAA member, btw ... agree to have another NY Metro school join (particularly as an affiliate member since I assume we'd stay A10 in all other sports)? The information comes from contacts inside the CAA and A-10. And Hofstra has very little juice in the league and can't block us. Take it to the bank, we can join the CAA in football if we so choose. (NT) -- Rambacker, 10:58:32 03/08/05 Tue

Re: Agree with Rambacker that Hofstra lacks juice. They went there only after the PL turned them down in the early 90's (a bad move, IMO) and they had few alternatives except the CAA. The league transition scenario must play itself out, with the CAA taking in the current A-10 teams by 2007, getting settled, negotiating a good TV Package, and then inviting Fordham. I'm looking forward to it. Fordham with scholarships in football will be a very interesting scenario. We can be very good with full rides and will be able to play competitively with Army, Navy and some other lower Div. 1A teams. That level is where we should be, at the very least. Rambacker, dude! I share you passion for FU, but w/o proof, I can't see the CAA looking our way! All I've read says 12 schools to CAA: W&M, JMU, Nova, Towson, Hofstra, Delaware, URich, Main, URI, UNH, Northeastern and UMass (if they don't go to 1-A).
