Never heard this story before:

In the Aggies' first Cotton Bowl in 1941, they beat Fordham 13-12 and used a bit of trickery. Trailing 6-0 in the second half, coach Homer Norton called for the "hideout pass."

A&M's Earl "Bama" Smith acted as if he was running off the field as the Aggies broke the huddle. Instead, Smith stopped a stride short of the sideline and streaked down the field, catching a 62-yard TD pass from quarterback Marion Pugh.

as a former UT Austin grad student, it shames me to think the Rams were hoodwinked by an Aggie. (NT)GMeagherFC7413:16:41 12/28/04 Tue

Re: 1941 Cotton Bowl--It should be noted that Steve Hudacek, a Fordham tackle, attempted an extra point. He missed when his kick hit the crossbar. In a great 1/2/41 article, The New York Times reported that the Rams did everything in the game but win. (NT)Ram It '6618:15:15 12/31/04 Fri
