This may be one of the most illogical decisions by the fordham admin. I am sure there are specific locations on the field that would make the logo or "fordham" pleasing to one in attendance or watching on television. Just more evidence of Ath. Dept.'s "do the minimum"!!! They have a culture similar to bureaucratic government. Don't make waves, do the minimun and never be creative or go the extra yard. This limited culture iis and always has been supported by a university administration which finds athletics an amusing diversion never to be fully embraced. For example, let's move to 1aa but let's not improve our horrible facilities. Let's put in field turf, but make it as vanilla as possible. I understand not painting the end zones--this field will be used by many teams, as it should be. Don't get how an "F" in the middle will be a distraction to anyone though. I don't think this is a big deal though...Notre Dame doesn't paint their field and it looks classy. It would be nice if the plans for Jack Coffey included some stonework, a wrought iron fence instead of a chain link fence border, temporary visitors stands that don't look cheesy, and getting rid of what looks to be junk and/or old equipment underneath the stands. Well stated John. I am a former soccer Ram and can attest that playing on a field with painted endzones ruins the game, not to mention what it can do to the players (particularly the goalkeepers). That said, a logo in the middle should not be that big a deal. What actually concerns me most is all the yard lines that will be on the soccer field. lead architect and FU's project manager said 'No temporary seating for football on visitor side' .. I guess the only way to change it is to pack the home stands to capacity and make FU come up with an alternative.. (force them)... One bright spot is night lighting is permanent ... the lights will go around the circumference of the whole square (complex)... and shine inward... so the lights on visitor side will actually be on the other side of 1st base/rightfield line.. but be high enough and bright enough to play night games.. Like the rest of us, I was upset and disappointed to read about the lack of logos, insignias, etc. for the new field. So I dropped Frank an email and he resonded back by saying 'the field will have university logos' Taking him at face value, where did this chatter about no logos start? I sporke to FU's project manager and the lead architect out of a Manhattan Firm .. both said ' No Logo, No Color No Print on midfield or endzones... this was last week.. either Frank is not being truthful or perhaps they are now re thinking their bland football field.. I can understand not having colored end zones, but we should at least have our name spelled out in them and have our insignia at mid-field. Those kinds of things are what adds character to our facility for fans, makes it easier to identify on sports clips and even from planes flying over from LaGuardia.
