Immediate playing time was a big factor for two of them. In fact, Dudley was a starter from the get-go. Of course we can have a first-rate program in the PL, but it will take a master recruiter to bring in the talent. I�m confident Coach Foley can do it, but the need-based system won�t make it easy for him. In fact, one of the reasons Coach Clawson listed for accepting the Richmond job (which some on this board viewed as a lateral move) was the luxury of offering scholarships to prospects. Full scholarships don't guarantee anything. There are dozens of scholarship programs that go nowhere because the head coach or the staff can't recruit. If just having scholarships were the answer, there would be no losing teams, would there? College football is all about recruiting. Our aid package plus our reputation will bring most kids here. I agree, and when you don't have the promise of immediate playing time, then you need facilities to recruit, especially in the non-schoolie PL..unfortunately the same was true in '88/'89/'90 when good recruits came for 11 starts the chance to play 1-AA football right away, but the lack of facilities, poor coaching and losing records drove the program into the ground for a decade. if we stay in non-$ PL, then recruits want a winner, good facilities, nice uniforms and a shot to play by their Jr year. There are 120 I-AA football programs and I can only think of three I-AA scholarship schools with better academic reputations than Fordham (Richmond, William & Mary, and Furman � Wofford and Villanova are academically on par with Fordham).
