Subject: You get an "F" on your Fordham Football history test. Elevating the football program was made possible by the Visiting Committee for Athletics(and Bill Walsh), a group of very substantial donors($25,000 or more each per year) that worked with(and on) the Board and Fr. O'Hare to make the move to 1-AA possible. We are in the process of gathering a similar funding scenario for basketball. My prediction: by 2007 we have a winning basketball program that plays in the NCAA Tournament and a scholarship 1-AA football program. Subject Author Date Sorry. Wrong "facts". The NCAA was preparing to mandate that schools with D-1 basketball had to get out of D-III football. The visiting committee provided support true, but had nothing to do with our making the move. I was there. Your predictions may be true. I am saying they didn't drive it and if there had been the kind of support other schools get, it wouldn't have taken over ten years and 4 coaches before we reached respectibility. We could have stayed in Div. 3, but the Visiting Committee made it possible to move to 1-AA. Not two people. What's important now is that we're in the wrong conference. Fordham needs full scholarships at the 1-AA level to be consistently successful. The future will be very interesting. Stay tuned when new athletic management takes over.
