In reply to: Rambacker 's message, "That's the way Fordham has done it in the past. We will be doing things differently in the future. When the management study is finished, we will be taking action immediately on capital projects. The timeframe can be much faster, and should be if we make it a priority. You'll be surprised how quickly things will happen starting next year. In the interim, I would suggest not adding fuel to the arguments of those who resist positive change. Athletics time has come, and we will see action. Be a believer, not someone willing to wait a decade." on 21:04:11 12/11/04 Sat

In order for us to get a stadium, we would have to have the appropriate facility studied and designed well enough (which takes time) to do the fundraising or budgeting (which takes more time). All of that of course assumes that the land to construct this on will be available.

It appears that the University is planning for Coffey to be dual use (with dugouts for baseball) for the forseeable future based on their FieldTurf investment, which means that it would not be realistic to expect anything more than portable bleachers for football visitors (they're not going to install FieldTurf and then rip it out just a few years later). Long term it might be realistic to expect that the University will move baseball off Coffey and onto Lot A (which assumes the garage is completed and main entrance moved, all of which takes time) or off campus (and buying/building or securing an alternative venue takes time).

How can there possibly be quick action? Even in the best scenario I can possibly imagine it would take at least 4-5 years to get all this done. Throw in the idea of a Convocation Center being built as part of a coordinated facilities plan and I can see it taking even longer.

I see getting FieldTurf, lights, and portable bleachers as the positive action which will get us to where we want to be, just a little further down the road than you would apparently prefer. Short of acquiring the Webster Avenue properties and air rights over the tracks, I just don't see how it could happen any other way.

For several reasons, I won't get into specifics here as far as projected capital planning. Let me just say this - it is important that all alums make their opinions clear if you'd like to see state-of-the-art athletic facilities. It can happen if we work to make it happen. The current capital campaign will be replaced soon by another, which could include athletic facilties. It's up to us. But posting that it can't happen for 10 years is innacurate and detrimental to this effort. (NT)Rambacker22:33:12 12/12/04 Sun
