Subject: For projects like this alumni input is ALWAYS important and appropriate, even if no one alumnus the sponsor. Alumni are constantly barraged for requests for money, to attend events, to hire recent students, refer potential students, etc. - it's foolish to think we shouldn't at least be asked for our ideas. To imply the Administration couldn't benefit from the experience and input of alumni is simply naive and arrogant. It's also one reason the alumni giving rate is so low. Ignoring the alumni produces apathy, getting us involved in planning stages produces emotional commitment.

In reply to: Ramadama 's message, "Don't know if alumni input is especially important or appropriate. A major donor isn't paying for the renovation. I think Fordham has done a pretty good job on construction projects over the past few years and I don't think Fr. McShane is going to let them build a several million dollar eyesore or something impractical." on 10:15:44 12/03/04 Fri

Not my point. It isn't always practical to get input. Which alums would you ask for input and how much detail do you ask for? You hire professionals to do a job. You have to let them do it. If there is a structure in place to solicit this kind of advice, like am athletic committee, I'd agree. I don't think you just solicit feedback without structure. (NT)Ramadama12:23:07 12/03/04 Fri
