I accidentally came across this message board and I want to congratulate Egypt on their new Miss and Mister winners.

I don't know much about Egypt. All I know is that it is an Islamic nation. However, I am curious as to how your country can be so open minded about beauty pageant vs Indonesia which attacks it. Both are Muslim nations. How do the public view the pageant and do you have a swimsuit section? Is it ok for a girl to walk the streets in a tight fitting jeans or a short skirt?

I look forward to seeing your delegates compete internationally.

Geneviève de Fontenay, the self-proclaimed president of the Miss France organization which is now owned by Endemol, recently appeared on the talk show Incroyable! Mais Vrai! on TF1, the same network that broadcasts the popular Miss France pageant, along with the current Miss France Alexandra Rosenfeld. Both women expressed their utter aversion towards surgically enhanced beauties and pageants that obsess about them - a sentiment shared also by many pageant fans and beauty experts. Madame and Mademoiselle's brutally frank comments have been transcribed by Audrey Mouge for the news section of TF1. Critical Beauty has translated the French article for our English-speaking readers. Here it is:

GENEVIEVE DE FONTENAY

“Today, 90% of the participants have their lips plumped up with collagen, their faces injected with botox, and their breasts looking like soccer balls. It’s “Barbie and friends.” How do you expect Alexandra – no matter how charming she is – to compete with a girl who has gone ten times under the knife? Some of them even have their plastic surgeons as their best friends! Blame it on the Americans! They allowed that the candidates be reshaped. What do you want?!!! The Miss Universe pageant belongs to billionaire Donald Trump and you can’t even talk to those people! Sometimes I want to boycott all these international pageants, but even if I don’t send a French representative, they wouldn’t care because they would invent a Miss France as a substitute. And even if we haven’t had a Miss Universe in 53 years (Christiane Martel won in 1953), that doesn’t prevent me from sleeping. I prefer to come empty-handed rather than to have a Miss France with silicone implants! I am proud to say that in France our Misses are naturally beautiful, spontaneous and fresh. I admit that I have not examined the breasts of every Miss to see if they are real or not, but in general they are 100% natural. On July 23 and 24, I will be commenting on the Miss Universe pageant with Christophe Roux and I am not going to be bothered by what I say during the program. And since it will be a live show, no one can cut me off!”

ALEXANDRA (MISS FRANCE 2006): “I can’t compete!”

“I will never be Miss Universe! Going to Los Angeles, I don’t even have a chance! Let’s get real. Out of 87 girls, three-fourths of them are redone from head to foot. They’re extraterrestrials, and I can’t compete with them! I really dread making this trip knowing that my presence there would be insignificant. The personality of these fabricated girls is totally the opposite of mine. I can only hope that my roommate is nice… Let’s be positive. I have to consider the competition not as a torment but a unique experience. I’ll be more of an ‘observer’ than a candidate. Sylvie Tellier told me everything. She met so many mind-blowing girls that these international beauty pageants have become the best memories of her reign. Some of these girls spend their time admiring themselves in front of the mirror or dolling themselves up. They’re narcissists who are crazy about their bodies, obsessed with their manicured fingernails. Even if it’s 104 degrees outside, they don’t get in the hotel swimming pool for fear that their hairdo would be ruined by a wavelet. To these pageant maniacs, being a Miss is a real job. As soon as they notice the cameras, they become ecstatic. The trigger intoxicates them. They smile on cue, flirts with and blows kisses to the lenses. It’s scary. These “dolls” don’t know how to enjoy life. Encaged in a superficial kingdom, these young beauty queens must be really unhappy.” - AUDREY MOUGE

I did not really like the pics of Fawzeyya on the main page, it does not even look like her! I donno it is the way the photos were taken or something and her looks.
when will the rest of the pics be out?
I watched Hany El-Behiry's latest fashion show in which Fawzeyya was an honorable model and modeled the same gown she wore for the final night with the crown, she looked wonderfl, a real queen, I wish we get some of those pics!

My suggestions for competitions for this year:
1. Fawzeya Mohamed Ms. Universe and maybe Ms. Inter Cont
2. Reem Helal Ms. World
3. Rasha Hassan- Miss International or Earth
4. Nisreen or Christine if not too old- Miss Inter Cont or Miss Global International
Some Semi finalists that could be happy surprises:
5. Salma- Send Her To Miss Africa International very well recognized competition. She would be admired and she would sure win the title and bring a back a new title to Egypt
6. Sara- Miss Earth or Global international. Her pa She is well fit for an international show and I think her past experience would put her on top, she could be a lucky surprise like Arwa Gouda (she reminds me a lot of her ) or Ines Gohar.
7.Marize-Tall, perfect size for model. might need to lose some weight, but she is perfectly fit to represent Egypt. surprise she didnt make it further

Usually they would be out by now. They need to be shown to the public to give her some buzz as many other contestants have photos that many people are posting and talking about.

My favorite African delegate in Miss Universe was Atetegeb Tetsaye of Ethiopia. To me, she epitomized the quintessential African ebony queen: tall, graceful and ebullient. Her only other rival would be Egypt's Elham Wagdi who drew a lot of attention in Miss Earth with her whistlebait figure and her warm personality. The GB judges gave the highest points to Elham in the Best National Costume category, even surpassing Margareth Wilson Chacha. Elham wowed the audience with her deluxe Cleopatra get-up complete with a snake headband and a shimmering pair of gold lamé wings. (4/23)

[Edit]

Date Posted: Thursday, May 18, 05:35:10am

Lubna Amin, the only Egyptian contestant left has been voted-off for elimination for the first time this week. Lubna who has always wowed the audience and the judges with her height and grace was not judged fairly during the evaluation this week. The head of the jury, Amanda Delipin who is a professional model was abscent and the judge was left to Murielle Angilopolo "an unknown designer, still a judge" and she insulted Lubna by saying that she is NOT a haute couture model material and she is only good enough to model in atulies! Actually I think that Lubna is the most perfect girl to become a model in the competition! Lubna, Reem and Chris"who already left" are the best!
Im really pissed-off because the undeserving ones are staying, the very short unproportionate ones! And there is an obvious bias towards the Lebanese contestant, Karen "just compare how many times she appears on the camera to ohw many times does Lubna" I do not argue that Karen is beautiful, but she is too short and a bit stocky to be called a super model! She should have joined Miss Lebanon.

Anyways, help Lubna to stay in the game and vote for her:

Call 1416 from any mobile in Egypt and vote for #1 Lubna Amin, or send an SMS to 9323 with 1 only in it.

I was surprised when I saw Elham didn't win the best N.C. on GB awards, I really can't understand why GB judges and all the judges of international peagents prefer thoses NC covered with very big fethers, and enormous forms, and are too heavy to be worn for more than 30 min.Costumes which Latinas usually wear, i know it represents cultures like the old Inka culture and others, but i always thought NC must be what people actually wore in the past, they must be costumes that makes us recognize the country the second we look at them, and not like those latinas' festival things which can't be differed from each other.
Would you agree with this or I am the only person of the world who thinks this way :P

Miss World

well, the competition is going well sofar, but I wonder if the choices and grades are awarded based on photos only or the pageant videos? For instance, Amal Ali looked great during the pre-final and final night along with Sarah Mohy, while Maisa was a bit of a disappointment on the final night.
Also Im really disappointed because the regioning Miss Egypt Club Hoda Kaiser is not mentioned at all, and there is no picture of her as if she was dethroaned.
After all, Im really happy that this tradition is back, it is fun.

Antigone Costanda was the winner of the Miss World beauty pageant in 1954, representing Egypt. The pageant was held on October 18, 1954 in London, England, 16 contestants participated. In addition to Arabic she speaks Greek, English, Italian and French fluently. Her total points overall in the Miss World event were 7.941, ranked 4th. The Greek-Egyptian beauty was the first Miss Egypt candidate to win the title for Egypt.

According to Eric Morely's 1967 book, "The Miss World Story", Antigone was positively beaming claimed her victory was also for third runner-up status of Marina Papaelia, 1953's Miss Egypt. The picture to the left shows Antigone at the Nastri d'Argento award in Rome, Italy on July 16, 1955.

Antigone in RomeThe following year, during the 1955 Miss World beauty pageant held in London, Antigone did not show up to the event because of political hostilities between Egypt and Britain over the Suez Canal. British actress Eunice Gayson crowned Miss Venezuela as the new Miss World.

Antigone CostandaPrior to winning Miss World Antigone was gaining experience as in the model world, her face appearing in numerious publications. Winning Miss World further aided her into reaching the top of her profession, becoming a successful model in the Middle East, France, Italy and Greece. Her career in later years moved into interior design. She ran a company designing the interior of business buildings.

Let me first start by saying that Meriam George has stolen my heart! Her photos in the final night speak for themselves. She is a goddess. My only wish was that she looked like this during the Miss Universe competition. Don't get me wrong, she was gorgeous in Thailand but her styling now looks so refined and royal. Best of luck to her! She will do great things.

A big congratulations should go out to Fawzeya and her court of Runner-Ups. She will have a great year as the new Queen of the Nile and she should be very proud! Good luck to her in L.A.

My advice to Face2Face, Mr. Yousef Spahi and any of the other stylists who will be helping Fawzeya prepare for Miss Universe.

1) Create a very rigorous work-out program. Miss Universe is no longer about brains first and body second. It's 99% looks. Many of the other delegates have already been crowned so they have had more time to work out and prepare their bodies.

2) Pick a "supermodel" evening gown and by this I mean something that elongates the body and something Fawzeya can walk in very fast as if she is on a fashion runway. In the last few years Miss Universe has used quick music for the Evening Gown competition and many of the ladies with flowing skirts who are able to walk faster to the music get higher scores, while the ladies who walk very slow because they have tight skirts look awkward. Also, don't go too cultural on the evening gown...Meriam's gown last year was a work of art but it was not a runway gown. Also bring 2 gowns to L.A. so that if Fawzeya makes the semi-finals then she can wow and shock everyone with a new gown that nobody has seen before!

3) Give Fawzeya a make-over (hair and make-up) so that when she lands in Los Angeles she can shock and surprise everyone! So far people have seen the pictures of most of the delegates so they know what to expect. Make their mouths drop when they see Fawzeya.

4) Tell Fawzeya to be very extroverted and outspoken like Heba El-Sissy in MU 2004. Miss Egypt has to get noticed by speaking up and calling attention to herself.

5) In terms of runway walk, Miss Egypt should have a signature walk, that is a walk that no other lady will have. Miss Puerto Rico (the diva) and Miss Israel (very sassy) had this during the final swimsuit round in Thailand last year. The signature walk will make Miss Egypt get noticed on stage and will separate her from the others who all walk the same.

6) Fawzeya should try to make people laugh when she is in L.A. Making the interview judges and the audience laugh during the final night (if she makes Top 5) will get her the support she needs. If the crowd supports her then there is no way they can't give her the crown. Look at last year. Miss Canada was facially the least attractive looking in the Top 5 but she won the crowd over in the interview and she took the crown. The Miss Universe Organization always makes the crowd happy...the crowd is the real judge and they heavily influence the decisions made by the hired judges for the event.
Please know that getting into the Top 15 is very hard. Why?

Paula Shugart is friends with some of the other pageant organizers/directors who send delegates, namely: Magali Febles (Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic), Osmel Souza (Venezuela), Denis Davila (Canada) and the director of Miss Trinidad and Tobago. Miss USA is also run by Paula Shugart so that explains how Chelsea Cooley made the Top 10 last year. The reason why you see these countries make it almost every year is because the above mentioned pageant directors PAY A MUCH HIGHER FRANCHISE FEE to Paula Shugart than other countries do. It has been made public that Venezuela's franchise fee to the Miss Universe Organization is about US$70,000 per year and in turn they tend to make it every year (2004 was the exception). So even when their ladies aren't that attractive a spot in the semi-finals/finals is paid for.

So if you look at the Top 15, some spots (even as I type this message) will be already taken due to pageant politics and friendships behind closed doors. Miss Egypt's goal is to get one of the spots that is given to the surprise/dark-horse girls. Last year these spots went to: Israel and Switzerland. Indonesia doesn't count because she had too many politics surrounding her and they wanted her to liberate herself on stage.

I have confidence that Fawzeya can do it but I think this year the delegates overall are superior than last year's so the competition will be stiff. But just make sure Fawzeya has fun, she enjoys herself and that she works hard and stays positive. If she can create a buzz like Heba did in 2004 I think she will have a huge shot at landing in the Top 15 and maybe even higher!

Good luck and Congratulations!

I realy donno why did Elham leave mission fashion , and if she said she was sick than i think same thing happened with her in miss earth , she is taking all the support from face2face organization and when she feels she won't reach the top , she leaves and says she is sick , i think she was represnting egypt and i don't think that this is a proper thing to do , its really childish , i think we all need a sort of clairification here and hope mr. yousef or Elham herself would clarify this issue for us viewers.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know what Fatima Khalil is up to. I think she is so stunning and the fact that the new Miss USA is only 5'5 made me think of Fatima because everyone used to say she was gorgeous but lacked height.

If she is not busy I suggest Face2Face send her to a pageant! She could pull an Arwa Gouda surprise!

Also, what happened to MISS EGYPT CLUB 2005? I was sent emails about it but then no one was chosen....

Thanks*

Who designed the final walk gown of Merriam and the red gown of Fawzeya? These are the type of gowns needed in Miss Universe, especially the one of Merriam's. I hope Egypt does well this year in Miss Universe. She has more time to prepare, the pageant being in July. Suggest them to the national director.

I would like to express my wish to SEND MISS EGYPT AGAIN TO MISS WORLD.
Until now i am not convinced with the idea that u boycotted the miss world because of the injustice of their new voting system, For me i think the new system is better for egypt as in egyption queens are much more beautiful than many affrican girls.
I hope meriam gorge or fawzia goes to Miss world.

Also i advice to train the queens and let them read more and more, i am sorry to say that but i couldn't beleive that educated women with university levels speak like that, i thought just in miss lebanon that they are just be beautiful and silent but it is the same for egypt!!!!!! just nisrine had an accepteble answer.

Congratulation for fawzia, she look much more beautiful with her hair down.
