Miss World

Hi
i didn't watch miss egypt, but according to the pictures posted on your website, it seems like the first runner-up showed an unusual reaction after annoncing the winner? was it just a few secondes reaction and she behaved right after it? or did she have the "Lamita"(from Miss Lebanon 2004) reaction?

well, the competition is going well sofar, but I wonder if the choices and grades are awarded based on photos only or the pageant videos? For instance, Amal Ali looked great during the pre-final and final night along with Sarah Mohy, while Maisa was a bit of a disappointment on the final night.
Also Im really disappointed because the regioning Miss Egypt Club Hoda Kaiser is not mentioned at all, and there is no picture of her as if she was dethroaned.
After all, Im really happy that this tradition is back, it is fun.

This is the first year for Mr Egypt but it almost seems like there was no Mr Egypt. The only pictures we have seen are the Mr Photogenic pictures and the black and white picture of the winner.

Where are the pictures from the competition? Where are the boys backstage and during rehearsals? We want to see more of Ibrahim, Ahmed and Kareem!

Thanks

Antigone in RomeThe following year, during the 1955 Miss World beauty pageant held in London, Antigone did not show up to the event because of political hostilities between Egypt and Britain over the Suez Canal. British actress Eunice Gayson crowned Miss Venezuela as the new Miss World.

Antigone CostandaPrior to winning Miss World Antigone was gaining experience as in the model world, her face appearing in numerious publications. Winning Miss World further aided her into reaching the top of her profession, becoming a successful model in the Middle East, France, Italy and Greece.

Let me first start by saying that Meriam George has stolen my heart! Her photos in the final night speak for themselves. She is a goddess. My only wish was that she looked like this during the Miss Universe competition. Don't get me wrong, she was gorgeous in Thailand but her styling now looks so refined and royal. Best of luck to her! She will do great things.

A big congratulations should go out to Fawzeya and her court of Runner-Ups. She will have a great year as the new Queen of the Nile and she should be very proud! Good luck to her in L.A.

My advice to Face2Face, Mr. Yousef Spahi and any of the other stylists who will be helping Fawzeya prepare for Miss Universe.

1) Create a very rigorous work-out program. Miss Universe is no longer about brains first and body second. It's 99% looks. Many of the other delegates have already been crowned so they have had more time to work out and prepare their bodies.

2) Pick a "supermodel" evening gown and by this I mean something that elongates the body and something Fawzeya can walk in very fast as if she is on a fashion runway. In the last few years Miss Universe has used quick music for the Evening Gown competition and many of the ladies with flowing skirts who are able to walk faster to the music get higher scores, while the ladies who walk very slow because they have tight skirts look awkward. Also, don't go too cultural on the evening gown...Meriam's gown last year was a work of art but it was not a runway gown. Also bring 2 gowns to L.A. so that if Fawzeya makes the semi-finals then she can wow and shock everyone with a new gown that nobody has seen before!

3) Give Fawzeya a make-over (hair and make-up) so that when she lands in Los Angeles she can shock and surprise everyone! So far people have seen the pictures of most of the delegates so they know what to expect. Make their mouths drop when they see Fawzeya.

4) Tell Fawzeya to be very extroverted and outspoken like Heba El-Sissy in MU 2004. Miss Egypt has to get noticed by speaking up and calling attention to herself.

5) In terms of runway walk, Miss Egypt should have a signature walk, that is a walk that no other lady will have. Miss Puerto Rico (the diva) and Miss Israel (very sassy) had this during the final swimsuit round in Thailand last year. The signature walk will make Miss Egypt get noticed on stage and will separate her from the others who all walk the same.

6) Fawzeya should try to make people laugh when she is in L.A. Making the interview judges and the audience laugh during the final night (if she makes Top 5) will get her the support she needs. If the crowd supports her then there is no way they can't give her the crown. Look at last year. Miss Canada was facially the least attractive looking in the Top 5 but she won the crowd over in the interview and she took the crown. The Miss Universe Organization always makes the crowd happy...the crowd is the real judge and they heavily influence the decisions made by the hired judges for the event.
Please know that getting into the Top 15 is very hard. Why?

Paula Shugart is friends with some of the other pageant organizers/directors who send delegates, namely: Magali Febles (Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic), Osmel Souza (Venezuela), Denis Davila (Canada) and the director of Miss Trinidad and Tobago. Miss USA is also run by Paula Shugart so that explains how Chelsea Cooley made the Top 10 last year. The reason why you see these countries make it almost every year is because the above mentioned pageant directors PAY A MUCH HIGHER FRANCHISE FEE to Paula Shugart than other countries do. It has been made public that Venezuela's franchise fee to the Miss Universe Organization is about US$70,000 per year and in turn they tend to make it every year (2004 was the exception). So even when their ladies aren't that attractive a spot in the semi-finals/finals is paid for.

So if you look at the Top 15, some spots (even as I type this message) will be already taken due to pageant politics and friendships behind closed doors. Miss Egypt's goal is to get one of the spots that is given to the surprise/dark-horse girls. Last year these spots went to: Israel and Switzerland. Indonesia doesn't count because she had too many politics surrounding her and they wanted her to liberate herself on stage.

I have confidence that Fawzeya can do it but I think this year the delegates overall are superior than last year's so the competition will be stiff. But just make sure Fawzeya has fun, she enjoys herself and that she works hard and stays positive. If she can create a buzz like Heba did in 2004 I think she will have a huge shot at landing in the Top 15 and maybe even higher!

Good luck and Congratulations!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know what Fatima Khalil is up to. I think she is so stunning and the fact that the new Miss USA is only 5'5 made me think of Fatima because everyone used to say she was gorgeous but lacked height.

If she is not busy I suggest Face2Face send her to a pageant! She could pull an Arwa Gouda surprise!

Also, what happened to MISS EGYPT CLUB 2005? I was sent emails about it but then no one was chosen....

Thanks*

Who designed the final walk gown of Merriam and the red gown of Fawzeya? These are the type of gowns needed in Miss Universe, especially the one of Merriam's. I hope Egypt does well this year in Miss Universe. She has more time to prepare, the pageant being in July. Suggest them to the national director.

I think you should start the Bodour Salah award, an award given to one contestant each year in memory of Bodour her outsanding character, great presence in Miss Egyprt 2005. That would be a great way to keep her in our thoughts, prayers and mind. It is just a suggestion, tell me what you guys think

I would like to express my wish to SEND MISS EGYPT AGAIN TO MISS WORLD.
Until now i am not convinced with the idea that u boycotted the miss world because of the injustice of their new voting system, For me i think the new system is better for egypt as in egyption queens are much more beautiful than many affrican girls.
I hope meriam gorge or fawzia goes to Miss world.

Also i advice to train the queens and let them read more and more, i am sorry to say that but i couldn't beleive that educated women with university levels speak like that, i thought just in miss lebanon that they are just be beautiful and silent but it is the same for egypt!!!!!! just nisrine had an accepteble answer.

Congratulation for fawzia, she look much more beautiful with her hair down.

- I think the top 5 deserved to be the pre-finalists.

- Altough Fawzeya's face is not the most beautiful, she got the most beautiful and well proportioned body. That is why IMO the jury gave her the title. She also had the "allure" and confident, but not arrogant, position on the stage. Does anyone remember a Lebanese contestant in Miss Lebanon 2002 called Manal Azzi? There is some resemblance with Fawzeyya.

- Nesreen' s age I guess was a reason for her 4th position, otherwise she deserved a higher rank. As everyone else I liked her answer. By the way she looks like a more beautiful version of Carole Sama7a.

- Reem is such a beauty, but she has to find a more beautiful hairstyle. A lighter hair would make her better.. I do not like her walk either, and she has to get trained.

Despite the natural beauty of Christine, her relative short height is a reason for moving her back to the 4th runner-up.

I know it's not its time now, but we should prepare for it after the show ends today:

1-i think that the next miss egypt should take place in january not april, as more preparations will be done to the next miss egypt, like better catwalking, speaking english, making her best newlook,...etc(Miss PR & Venezuela do so)

2-i know it's strange but exciting!why we don't make a new award besides miss photogenic and the other awards. We will name it (best egyptian national costume award)!!i mean that, the one who design the evening gowns, also design a national costume for each contestant,it would be a vareity of pharaonic, islamic, alexandrian, upper egyptian, and more.their photos will be published at the website to make people vote for the best one(this is a 50%)with 50% the choice of the judjes. The best one will be worn in miss universe, the other top 2 will be worn in miss earth and miss international.

so, what do u think, guys, pls reply!

People, before voting one sms, think twice. What does Egypt need? do we need a doll to represent us? do we need a nerd?or we need a cultured educated decent and pretty girl?. This is not a modeling contest,it should be represtentable girl that should be an example of Egyptians. Someone who could speak to others about us, about wrong ideas they get. I think someone like Mahinour can do it all and id be proud of her. We've seen Heba and Meriam yes they were beautiful but there is more to it than that, i dont know them on a personal level so i cant judge. BUT, to make this hit we need more than a beautiful tall girl. Mahinour is fluent in English and German, very cultured, done extra curricular activities in high school(charity) and M.A.L and model united nations..and last but not least she is very beautiful, and has the charisma..Vote for Mahinour if you want a classy Ms. Egypt to represnt our country..Boooom Go Mahi you can do it!

Congratulations to all the finalists each and every single of you looked great. I think sara should of been in the final (beautiful gown, goergeous hear, just amazing) and i expected marize in too. But everyone was great and I was happy overall. I wasn't too pleased with the speaking in the final. Any of the 5 girls that left might of done better or said a smart answer to put them high. NEXT YEAR think about doing questions in semi finals it will be more exciting to have two rounds of questions get to hear the 10 girls. Other than that Congratulations Fawzeya you deserve it! Reem you did good and you should go to miss earth because we have better luck there. Rasha should go to miss world and you had a great pool of semi finalists you can even send one of them to one of the other shows, they were all fit. Who knows one of them could be the next Arwa Gouda, non finalist but beautiful.

well the pageant was well organized this year.....why did the judges have to pass through the stage first???really stange .....heba el sisy gained too muh weigth still looks nice except fot the dress didn't like the colour at all specially the feathers ....antigone costanda really nice ...ghada 3abd el raze2..why ???sma eto khaled el 3'andor......as if they are picking anyone to be the judge no matter what there reltionship to the pageant .
the girls' dance in the begining was really awful...the girls' moves were heavy as if they were forced to dance or too shy to dance.
the first costume ...didn't like it at all ...specially the accessoires ...i felt that the girls could hardly move wearing this dress..
the top ten were ok ....included teh ebst girls
swimsuit .....oh no .. not like the prefinal at all ...in the prefinal the swimsuit showed that probably most of the girls were with perfect bodies ..but in the final night ...only fawzeya and heba we ok ....salma had a nice body as well but too short[it was very clear that she was short ,I believ she was elemenated frm the top five because of her height.
evening gowns ....best gown ....reem....very nice ... worst gown ..christine ...salma's gown was nice buit made her look quiet old [liked her hair up] .....and what was wrong with this sandal ,the girls have been wearing it since the prefinal ....in all the three competitions .... didn't suit the evening gowns at all ...fawzeya's gown didn't like it .....
they picked the top five afterwards ..why didn't we here the girls talk before the top five been selected.....I believe that there will be different girls picked then .
didn't like the answer of any of the girls to the final question ...really liked what happened in the past when all the girls were asked the same question ....
teh winners ..no body expceted fawzeya to win ....really wished nisreen or reem to be the winner[only if reem shanges her way in standing ]also expected that sasha would be the 1st runner up.
anyway congartualtions to all the girls ....hopefully fawzeya will be trained well for miss universe ...really wish to see an egyptian in the top ten [just the top ten ...not even miss universe]

Congratulation Fawzeya ur the best
I think she will represent EGYPT in a very good way & she'll surprise all of us like Arwa Gouda

from the begining I said Fawzeya or Engy will be the queen as I gave them 4.75
Fawzeya was so confident , cute & attractive

Meriam George: I guess u r the most beutiful Egyptian girl at all. hoping to c ur movies soon (ur mu queen)

Saly Shahen: u r so cute & u start ur way in m.media but I hope u'll jump to higher livel u really have to be

I guess Maris was in a wrong place yesterday bcz she was not one of the best 10

I was so happy to c Antigone Costanda

I like Karem ur cliver & good speaker but I hope to c a new announcer next year

still there r many to learn from lebanon in organization & shows

I was shocked bcz in the 3 festivals (Mr. Egypt & pre-final & final Miss Egypt) there was only one Egyptian Singer out of six

1-So, fawzeya won, ok. But i don't know why?? i mean that, she didn't answer her question very well, on the other hand, i see nesrine (her only bad thing is the age) and reem answered well and with a self confidence...

2-Meriam George proved to be one of the best titleholders ever, she was like an angel, she was better than heba elsisy yesterday. It's also good to c our only winner in a world pageant, antigone costanda.

3-finally, i see all the 5 girls deserve to represent egypt outside.

So, pls don't make like last year and send only 2 to outside. Send fawzeya to MU, reem to MW, rasha to ME, nesrine to MI, and christine to miss intercontinental

anyway back to the comepetion i remeber reading a pot for fan-man and her sain that salma will look short in compare with other grls & he was right thought she looked imazing but she looked 5' in compare with the grls still i would pick her up for looking diffrent but it didnt happen
great top 10 fawzeya looked glamor & radiant from the start i knew she will be a runner up
i think the judges chosed the most fit contastant for the top 5 & personally i think the only grl who looked fit heba fargally rasha & fawzeya
what happen with maisa where is her confendat & cresitine where ur great stage present ?
fawzeya deserve the title she looked so fresh & glmoures but i was going with rasha but what i bealive happened is rasha was so freezed mabey over confidant i dont know
& i want to thank face to face for mentioning bedour i cryed yesterday it was so emotional to see answering the question & it was nice thing to give her a trubue R.I.P bedour
now what important to me is Mf & what happen with elham
im really really sad & i dont blame elham for what she did for dropping out it was the right thing to do
i almost cry in the first prime when she cried couse i felt what happen i dont know if im allowed to say it
but let just say was not fair not fair i mean elham last place !!! give me a break
she was so sad in the show i watched her few time she can barley left her head up looked sick & just coudnt take it anymore
so i want to say to elham i wish i can come i give u a big hug dont be sad dear ur goarguse dont let anyone dout that & u did the right thing ur way better than that
thats it
mabroook fawzeya looking forword to see in MU
& mabrook to all the runner up ur all gr8
& by the way i think face to face should send rasha to miss world she will be perfect
reem to miss earth

Fawzeyia was just crowned now miss Egypt 2006 Good luck to her , but i think Reem looked much better in the final question and facialy , i wish reem would have the chance to participate in Miss world or miss Earth cause i really liked her quick and good and confident answer in the final question and i think she would surprise us with good results like Arwa gouda in miss earth , i didn't believe my eyes , actually Meriam George looked wonderful exquisite , she really proved that she is one of the best and to all who bashed her on this board after seeing her pale pictures in miss alex compared to Elham Wagdi , i think they got the answers .

1- Contestants are more beautiful than their photos.
2- The three tops IMO are: Nesreen, Fawzeya and Reem
3- Rasha is beautiful but needs a more glamorous look.
4- If I ignore the important height fact, Christine and Heba Farghaly are also strong contestants.
5- Reem needs to control herself more on the stage and not to open her mouth fully when she smiles. This looks artificial (same about Nesreen concerning the smile)
6- Does Fawzeya have something wrong in her upper lip or what?
7- I found out that Heba Farghaly was the one in that long TV commercial about food products. She looked in the prefinal more beautiful than how she looked in the ad.
8- I guess a presenter of such an event should be someone with a trendy look OR a classic look, but not an outdated look! His hairstyle and big shoulder jacket are sooooooooo 80s!

i believe this year that there is no contestant who is really bautiful ....that doesn't mean that the girls are ugly....all the girls look sweet ....but none of them has a pretty face like sara shaheen was ....or karen fahmy....but many girls looked nice ...great fitness[really better than the previous years]
girls who really attracted my attention
fist of allh rasha is a nice face ..many one of the best ..but she is too afraid to smile....don't know why may be shy ..
heba farghally ...one of the best ....not the prettiest but graceful and classy ...looks lebanese ...i believ she should land in the top five [is that true that she left....that would be really very bad]
salma ...life and fresh
reem ...pretty face ...one of the best ....always simling
uptill now ...no favourite one i wish to see her wearing the crown ..don;t kno why

My Top 5 after pre final:
Magdoline-I love her face and body, it is sad that she doesn't meet universe requirements
Fawzeya- I love her black gown and she looked very confident walking with her long address while seeing many others fall
Sara- There is something about her that attracts so much. I love her smile and beauty. She look good in the swim suites and loooked lovely in the gown
Nesreen- looked pretty good, different from the pictures though. I don't think one girl should get two titles. Only concern she is 28 before miss universe I hear right now not 27. That might be a problem in universe
Amal- Beautiful, nice color. Like her confidence and smile.

Alternates
Reem- She is beautiful but she forced her smile on us too much. Doesn't take away from her nice body.
Rasha- I liked her but she needs to smile more. She lacks confidence it seems.
Salma- good stage prescence she is attractive, but I am not sure why I wasn't impress from her
Maisa- Not so much fit you guys! You should look into this award. She has a beautiful face but she walks almost like a belly dancer. I liked her gown also.

I noticed not to mention other girls names that some girls have problems walking espicially some of the taller girls. I am hoping it is the gowns not the walking

- She is really the Most pretty contestant, Her face reflects an unique Egyptian Beauty, also she has an ideal perfect body.
- Her high culture and unique study in master of Egyptology rather than her bachelor's degree in English Tour Guidance section from FTH, all her cultural experiences made from the most quallified one to know the history and civilsation of Egypt.
- Her work as a TV presenter in the specific and famous media firm which is " ART Ch " made from her the most ideal and qualified one to represent Egypt .
All that skills mixed and embodied in Reem Helal so all you should vote for Reem for the sake of Egypt.

- first about the star performers, Im happy that they are all superstars and everything, but only one of them is Egyptian and the rest are Lebanese! that is a bit annoying. However, I love Eiwan and Meriam they are great!
- Im reaaaaally disappointed that Amelia Vega is not coming! I was really looking forward to meeting this woman. and Im glad that Sally Shahin will be the co-host, this girl is so cute.
- About the pics. Well, I have seen the girls and they loom at least 10 times better than the pics, I donno what is wrong but please do not judge them untill yu see them on Tv.
- Will there be a daily show about the contest like last year? that was fun!

Royalty for a Year: Iraq Elects a Beauty Queen (Discreetly)

Under Tight Security and Limited Audience, the Beauty Pageant Show Went On

By HAIDER HAMZA

BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 5, 2006 — While Iraqi politicians compete ferociously over who will be the next prime minister, nearly a dozen young Iraqi women with different backgrounds and creeds managed to compete peacefully for a beauty title.

The 60th annual Miss Iraq Pageant was held in Baghdad today, an event that was much shunned during the last decades.

After a two-hour ceremony under tight security, Tamar Goregian, 23, the first Armenian Iraqi to win the pageant, officially became the "Iraqi Queen of Beauty."

Under the Radar
The pageant, held at a heavily guarded Baghdad social club away from the media, wasn't accessible to the public.

The audience contained mostly friends and family members of the contestants. Days before the event, nine contestants, including five Muslim girls, withdrew, fearing repercussions for participating in a "taboo" competition. Eleven contestants remained.

In the years that followed the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the pageant took place in an exotic hotel in Africa among the exiled Iraqi community.

This year's one-day, underground event — with a limited stage, no designers and no choreographers — contrasted sharply with the usual weeklong celebration and rehearsals.

The Show Must Go On
Despite the curtailed program, the 11 women gave it their best. The contestants paraded, then split into two groups and strutted their stuff in casual wear as a Baghdad guitarist played rock music.

After the musical recess, the contestants donned one-piece bathing suits, sarongs, hats or silk robes. After the evening gown competition, six girls were nominated as finalists.

Audience members jotted down the name of their favorite contestant and then the panel of four judges weighed in. Goregian received the most votes from the audience and from the judges, earning her the title.

Aside from queen of beauty, the audience also elected a teen queen and a queen of grace.

Pageant organizers hope to send the winner to the New York-based Miss Universe Pageant, in an effort to present a positive image of Iraqi women. The last time Iraq sent a delegate to a beauty pageant was at the Miss Universe contest in 1972, when Wijdan Sulyman represented the country in Puerto Rico.

Organizers and local club owners banned photos and media coverage to protect the girls from hard-line Islamists who call such contests a "Zionist creation."

Pageant organizers, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, hope that the new Miss Iraq can get a sponsor to pay the Miss Universe entry fee and help her prepare for the event.

"Pageants give women an edge to represent Iraqi costumes and culture, and show that Iraqi women are beautiful and intelligent," a pageant official said.

A U.S. organizer believes this year's winner will be given more opportunities than previous titleholders. The new queen will probably travel the world to create awareness about Iraqi women's issues and rights.

"We will train the new winner and get her prepared for the Miss Universe Pageant, with etiquette lessons, media communication skills, and PR skills," the U.S. organizer said.

Goregian can't wait for the challenge.

"Miss Universe would be a great experience for me. It would broaden my horizon and if I get a chance to compete, I may encourage girls to share this experience and encourage them to enter the [next] beauty pageant."

She also hoped that events like these would help put an end to the violence Iraq has been witnessing in the last three years.

"Maybe beauty is the final step to end violence and preach world peace after all," she said. "The power of beauty surpasses the ugly face of politics and greed."

The young woman added that one day she wanted to own her own business and maybe even become a politician.
