I agree dev, it is an excellent story. Yes, Mulder was on the ball, but I still feel that it was the similarity in circumstances to Samantha's disappearance, that brought him to the case. I can't help thinking that he was trying to recapture the time that Samantha went missing; that if he had been an FBI agent back then, with all of his insight & perception then he could have gotten further than all the other investigators.
Of course all of this changes with the death of his mother. When he visits Kathy for the second time, the objective Mulder is gone, she is the one with more insight into the case. Suddenly he is just desperate for someone to give him answers to questions that have not only forced him to think about the loss of his sister again, but also to cope with the fresh pain of his mothers unexpected death. I thought DD did a lovely job with this scene & also when he broke down in his apartment. Not sure about the shaking the desk bit, that seemed a bit out of place.
Kim Darby did an incredible job as 'Kathy' aswell. I found all of her scenes moving at some point, especially her video statement to the LaPierre's. She just seemed so fragile; conveying that, although her son is 'safe & protected', she is still carrying to some degree, the burden of being complicit in his disappearance.

And dev, I did find it difficult not to relate any of the above to 'Closure'. 'Sein und Zeit', 'Closure' & 'all things' are the only S7 eps I've already seen and so having to wait two weeks to discuss the concluding part of this story is going to be a real struggle.

XXX Sig :)
