M being able to speak French. I thought that the message may have been only for him--maybe he didn't *want* to translate for Scully--that was why I was wondering just what the genie actually said. I thought maybe it was more of a "be careful of what you say because you might get your wish" or maybe a message that he was going to get his wish (to find out what happened to Samantha.) Supposedly Genies know everything too?? I don't think he planned on becoming a daddy but the fertility restoration idea came at the very end when Scully asked what his third wish was. He glanced downward briefly and back up quickly at her which is where that idea came from. She may not have been pregnant at that time. You're right about the time thing--TV is the only place I know of where it takes a week to deliver a baby and in two years or less, the child is in military school somewhere (soap operas used to do this).

Almost forgot--I think she speaks some French also. She threw out a phrase in French in Foille adeux (I know absolutely no French--sorry about the horrible spelling.) It meant loosly--madness shared by two--from the episode where the telemarketer saw his boss as an *insect monster*. Mulder ends up in the hospital and Scully shoots at the monster's shadow.

You're right--lack of remembering details--makes for a tougher time following a smooth plot!
