Subject: Reflections

On this day 43 years ago Brian Jones had just about 9 days to live, but was unaware of it. It seems odd that everyone has stopped discussing him here on the board for the past week...at just about the same time he'd had a visit from Mick, Keith and Charley 43 years ago, informing him they'd "had enough of him". I also found out that few if any people visited his grave on what would have been his 70th birthday. This is a very sad thing, since it's been a place of pilgrimage since his death, and few years passed without someone coming to pay their respects to the fallen rock star. With all the hooplah about the 50th anniversary tour of his beloved band, it's especially eerie that his die-hard fans have become more silent than ever.

Have the Glimmers finally achieved their goal of fully erasing their mentor from history? He's never even mentioned anymore when the band is discussed, and all old pictures of the Stones shown anywhere have him cropped out of the image...just 4 Stones are in them.

Even his fan club, so active just a few years ago, seems to have disbanded now that the police refused to reopen that poorly investigated case. It's president has moved back to his childhood home to care for a pair of ailing parents. I've heard nothing of any of the usual reunions at the cemetery this year, but maybe I'm wrong about that. I understand Pat Andrews hasn't been well of late, and many of that event's organizers have passed on in the last year or two.

This all seems to coordinate with the expiration of Gerry Seda's web page, which I understand was one of the most popular Brian Jones sites in cyberspace. I'm hoping something will happen that sparks some renewed interest in Brian for the general public, but until then, I'm glad at least the few of us left here still remember the most underated musician in rock history. Just saying.
