Dr. Cyril Wecht's new book is out and it contains a chapter on Brian. Wecht is surprised that the autopsy report was so short, with errors in Brian's age and height...and his weight was not entered. He also said the two dense purple and yellow spots "could be due to diphenhydramine, which is present together in methaqualone in Mandrax, which the deceased is known to have taken." Wecht doesn't think the condition of Brian's liver caused his sudden death....but he definitely exhibited all the signs of drowning. He disagrees with Dr. Sommerville's statement about Brian not having an asthma attack in the pool...but he also said that an acute asthma attack leading to death is a difficult diagnosis to make at an autopsy. Wecht thinks Brian was underwater longer than the time that was given in the official statements. He can't rule out the possibility that Brian was dunked until he drowned, but the report was so brief that he can't come to any definite conclusions about what happened that night. Wecht wishes that the witnesses who later came forward about July 2 (Joe, Marty) would have talked to police and taken lie detector tests instead of speaking with journalists.
