My suggestion is go out to the book store and check out all of the new books celebrating the Stones 50th anniversary. Some great books like Gered Mankowitz(spell),showing off his (awesome) photograph's while he toured with the Stones back in the mid 60's (65 to early 67). Under no such "gag order from mafia men, aka ABCKO or Mick/Keith" he clearly puts Brian FIRST in the group when it came to style, looks, musicianship and more. Clearly, in Gered's mind, while taking the photograph's, Brian had the "IT FACTOR" which is why Brian is out front and center in the album photograph's like "Out of our heads" taken by Gered. He states that Brian was already with it when it came to style sense and fashion (not to mention good looks for the girls!!). Gered mentions also that Mick and Keith were still figuring it all out and were the "students" trying to keep up with Brian!!. The same could be said for the music writing, ideas for the songs, incorporating new instruments that fit a certain song but that's a whole other topic... this book is a must read and purchase!!

I met Gered back in the early 90's when he was on tour promoting his first book (Mason Yard to Primrose Hill) of photograph's at a art gallery in Georgetown (Washington DC). Amazingly there was nobody there (maybe 1 other person) when I arrived and Gered (he gave me a nice tour) and I talked for what had to be 20-30 minutes discussing each photograph (they were all on sale of course). I asked all kinds of questions about Brian (naturally) and his answers were excellent and matter of fact. No sugarcoating and said the good with the bad about Brian. I will always cherish that time with him because what he said to me was very close to his point of views in his new book (specifically regarding Brian). Of course, his new book goes into much greater detail. I should also mention he was a very nice man who did not have to spend as much time as he did... I was just a young guy with little money. I bought his book and he autographed the inside along with a couple of negatives that he gave me. I'm sure he wanted me to purchase one of his photograph's (I wish I had the money then!!) since he asked which one I wanted to buy.

My whole point is there are STILL people out there that talk of the Stones the way they originally were. Where the TRUTH comes out and not some contrived made up bull s*** to please Mick's GLORIOUS EGO (see Time Life Magazine). Lastly, get the book!!

George
