MW- yeah, I guess I do have some pretty thick rose-colo<b>u</b>red glasses on regarding England/Europe. But I can't help it. I think I love it so much because its not HERE. Every continent/country/town has its pluses and minuses. If there wasn't SOMETHING wrong then that'd be a little scary. I guess I feel hopelessness towards the US. Maybe I won't feel this way when Bush isn't the "pres" anymore, but for now I look at Europe as being amazingly full of culture. You guys have more history to learn from than we do. However on the point of health care, yes I know you have got problems but you have to live here to fully experience the horror of our health care nonsystem. Here you only have health care coverage if your employer offers it as a fringe benefit, and once you lose it, if you have a chronic condition you cannot get it again except at extortion rates. Hey gang! That's precisely my problem with America now....I know everywhere has it's problems but we are a huge country who constantly says how wonderful we are....We are big and loud and trying to tell everyone in the world how to do things when we can't take care of our own! It wouldn't be so bad, I guess, if the American government weren't shouting in everyones faces how wonderful we are....'cuz..we're not so much. I don't know much about the whole European Union thing but from what little I've heard it want's to kind of be like us...please don't....we certainly can't be a role model for that system. Bin! I have a big problem with the pledge for the very reasons you state! The 'indivisible' bit gets me because we have federal laws...but sometimes state laws supercede those and sometimes not...why not have laws that are uniform throught the country...if we are truly one nation then we should be just that. - Hello folks, LOVE everyone's energy! We do have to live with the image of the Ugly American, who throws his weight around. I have the idea that all the world is following the American model of conspicious comsumption and a throw away culture. But one thing I have felt for a long time was that since the Vietnam war, Americans have been unable to take any idea of failure or suffering and so we demand that there be quick solutions to everything or we look for a scapegoat. It is a neurotic running away from thinking, from complexity, from hard choices. It's lead us more and more to be fast, frantically happy, hip, sensation seeking, driven, ill at ease, often exhausted people....Or is that just me?
