I have a 1995 BMC 37 ft with a Cummins C3 engine and an Allison 6 speed auto.

Recently, after starting the engine in the morning I selected REVERSE and the ignition cut out immediately. I turned the ignition key OFF, then ON again. The engine started, I selected REVERSE, and everything operated normally.

One hour later, whilst traveling at 65 mph in cruise, there was a sudden yellow warning flash on the dashboard and the ignition cut out at the same time. I rolled to a stop.

I turned the ignition key OFF, then ON again, the engine started and I proceeded normally.

One hour later again, I stopped and selected REVERSE and the ignition failed again, all lights disappearing. I again turned the ignition key OFF, then ON, selected REVERSE and everything was okay.

I am sure that the engine did not stall as the ignition panel was completely blank on every occasion, including the transmission selector panel.

Has anyone else experienced an incident such as this? Or do you have any ideas as to the nature of the problem.

You may be able to get more info at the BMC web site.

A big thank you for directing me to the BMC Yahoo website. I found other BMCs had the same problem of the engine quitting when in motion and the problem was the solenoid in the hatch under the driver's window. I've now had the faulty 80 amp solenoid replaced with a 100 amp. Your advice was very much appreciated. Nick

I have a 1982 which had a simmilar problem. Luckily my stall occured in the driveway. When we had a simmilar occurance at a MX track I figured out the problem and only stalled once on the way home. In my case the ignition switch (where the key goes)was getting very hot. I removed the switch and cleaned it and noted that the wires connected to the switch were also getting very hot. The people at Holland Motor Home (Michigan) found me a new switch (I have run the 1982 about 14 week ends since the cleaning without actually installing the new switch). Moving the gear selector is most likey shaking the wires and resulting in your problem. Hope this helps!
