Hello all.

My wife and I bought a 1988 25th Silver Anniversary Rig. We are having problems with the DDEC-1. Even before I have picked up the rig, I got a check engine light and intermittent fast idle. The DDEC codes are saying the injectors are suspect. The coach has been at the Detroit engine shop for 8 working days. They seem to have no clue as to what is causing the problem. They don't even have the books for this system.
Called the engine builder in Detroit and they also have no clue. Called Bluebird and got the same.
My Question. Do any of you Guru's have experience with the DDEC 1? If so may I trouble you to call me or I call you?
(619)582-5467. I haven't even been able to drive off the lot cause I am taking delivery out of California state. Being full time and with no other home but the rig is getting frustrating.
Please ... HELP!!!

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1988 BB with the 8v92 engine. The check engine light came on intermittent for over 18 months. I had it checked out in at least 8 different DD shops. Finally, a mechanic in Williams Detroit Diesel in Phoenix suggested new ground cables from the starter to the engine, engine to the frame, radiator water tank to the frame (2 ground wires now installed. Since this work was done I have no check engine faults on the computor readings, no check engine lites. I believe this has cured the check engine lite problem.

Paul, My 89 pt 40 did the same thing. Showed various codes low coolant, bad injector, etc. After a week in the Detroit shop they told me it was a phantom signal, probably caused by a bad ground. I diconnected the check engine light and don't worry about it. The engine warning light and the engine shut off in the event of a failure still function. I just watch the gauges. Mike McMahan

Paul; I also have an '88 WanderLodge XXV. And, the check engine light has been a problem. I pulled out of the previous owners drive, drove maybe 100 miles and the light went on. As well, I spent many days at a DD shop. They swaped out parts, etc. Believe it or not, through nothing that they did, the light went out. Mine was reading low coolant which is a common code. When I bought the coach it had 21,600 miles on it. I'd make sure you have oil and coolant, and head out.
