Sure sounds like a great price, but I'll tell you more or less what I was told, by other bluebird writers, when I purchased my 1979 FC 35 last year. "Plan to spend at least $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 on it." I haven't spent more than $1,000.00, but, to have perfection, I could easily spend at $5,000.00 to $10,000.00. I also have the advantage of living near the Mexican border where labor costs are lower. When I buy something that's used, I look to see if the most expensive stuff will likely last at least 5 years. Of course there's no way to know, but if those items have been worked on, or are new, you should have a good idea what their minimum lifetimes are. If no repairs have been made on those items, or unless they've been hardly used, then you'll have to plan on replacing those items within Five years. Figure what the cost of replacement of those items will be, then figure out if you can still afford the unit. Since the Cat engine is nearly new, and the price is low, that really weighs in favor of the vehicle, but the Trans and generator can be expensive too.
