Subject: At youth levels, age-appropriate development is a thing. But you're proving my point - the trophy is super important to you apparently, not the taking part.

At youth levels, it is absolutely about encouraging age-appropriate development. At the adult level, yes - what matters is different. I've done lots of activities as an adult, and never once worried about who did it as a child, from art, to sports, to chess.

Like most activities, there are youth divisions based on age-appropriate things. And then, there's open categories - MAYBE wide age bands "U30, U40, Seniors" -- but the idea of "elite" competitions that separate out former youth competitors is ridiculous. Or just admit that "non-advanced adult" isn't actually championship worthy...
