I know, Gina, i am with you, i can't believe they just put him on a plane and send him back like a broken piece of equipment being returned to the store. But that being said, i don't think this situation highlights the negative aspects of adoption from another country. You have to understand that the foster homes in Russia are horrible, there's really no worse place for a child to grow up (other than on the street) There have been many articles and programs on the subject, the government there really doesn't put a lot of money into those places. Initially, I haven't read the whole story and assumed that the adopted boy was a teenager because the type of things they described (making a "hit list", trying to burn down the house) is something that only a teenager can be capable of. So my initial reaction was: well, of course he is troubled, they adopted him as a teenager from a foster home in Russia, what do they expect? But then i read up on this and turns out he was 7 years old. How bizarre and again, that doesn't justify them sending him back like that even more. I mean, there has got to be other options before they did that, why couldn't they seek advice of social services or adoption agencies in the US and explain the situation before they resorted to this? They only adopted him last year, so clearly it wasn't that long ago for them to deem the situation hopeless and so dangerous that they had to send him back. He's 7, for Pete's sake, they could've taken him to a child psychologist first or something. Clearly these parents adopted for all the wrong reasons, it's amazing to me that they felt so little attachment to this child after over a year, that instead of trying to get him help, they just put him on a plane with a little note in his backpack. If anything need to change here, it's not the scrutiny of adopting from other countries, it's better screening of the adoptive parents. I mean, sure, maybe the Russian adoption agency should've warned them that the boy had issues, but still, this does not justify how these parents handled it. Again, if he was a teenager, at least it would make a little more sense because teenagers are very hard to control and they can also be put on a plane by themselves. But the child is 7 years old, that's barely elementary-school age. Truly sad and messed up this whole story is. I have a friend who adopted a little boy from Russia when he was 9 months old (he's 3 or 4 years old now) and is in the process of trying to adopt from Russia again. Because of this she is going to have a really hard time, Russian officials have suspended adoptions from the US until there are some ground rules in place or something changes....This situation really needs to be looked at from all sides though, that's for sure. And again, while i agree that there are plenty of children in this country that need a home, i really don't think the problem was that he was adopted from another country, this could've been the case with an American born child, living in a foster home can really mess a child up and make all sorts of mental issues come to the surface. The difference is they wouldn't have been able to put him on a plane and send him away like an unwanted animal, further contributing to those mental problems, instead of trying to help him, which is what true adoptive parents commit to when they sign that paperwork and adopt a child.

Just my 2 cents...
Myst

P.S Let's pray to God that Brad and AJ won't adopt him, if he's a troubled child now, living the wild lifestyle of those two will make him go completely off the rails!
