For the smell of fear tonight
Wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied...
You're mine

Pain was Erich's anchor to reality...had he known her observation, he surely would have agreed that it was a surefire way to catch his attention. While he was adept at disengaging himself from it when needed, he had found that it served him well when the beast was rearing it's ugly head. He had no qualms about administering it to himself...hell, he'd even sunk his teeth into his own flesh during a desperate moment. However, once the control slipped past a certain point, it was almost a positive thing that the only way he would be stopped is if she intervened. He fervently hoped it would not come to that; he'd thought himself so well prepared for this, after all. He'd all but gorged himself before venturing out, thinking it would be enough to put the monster to rest for a while. Apparently, he'd been wrong.
He had truly thought he'd be okay...that he would keep power over the consuming darkness of his soul. Cammie's unexpected entrance had all but rocked the very core of his being, however...and his flimsy grip faltered just enough that the beast gained an edge. Erich fought fiercely...he would fight until the end, for that was his way. A glance was given to the bartender as she set down a glass that smelled tempting, though not nearly as much as Cammie or even the bartender herself did. A low sound of gratitude rattled in his throat as he all but lunged for the cup, doing his best to contain the urge to take it down in huge, graceless gulps. The thirst flared painfully as the first drops of liquid hit his palate, then retreated slightly. Only when the glass was empty did he settle it back on the bar, looking just a bit more composed. He had to stop this nonsense. This was not the way he'd been hardwired. He was not a weak man, nor was he prone to temptation. It was imperative that he regain some semblance of that old quality...and quickly.
"While I do not expect you to...I admit I wish it of you." His oceanic gaze held hers for a long beat. "I feel we have things left unsaid. Undone." A brief pause as he looked her over slowly. "I am not sure how this will go. I do naught want to hurt her." Even though his face remained expressionless, his words rang true. "You do not have to stay away." He told her, then directed a final thought her way. I wish you would not, in fact...
Cammie's voice caused him to turn, rising his bulk from his seat and leveling his nearly creepy blue eyes on hers directly. He had never believed he would lay eyes on her in the flesh again. Oh, it wouldn't have been hard to track her down--they were so similar in their habits, after all--but he had known it would be dangerous if she were still human. He'd been insatiable for her in life, and it seemed that it hadn't changed when his heart had finally beat it's last. That hunger had somehow shifted, however...it once raged for the pleasures of her body--now, it raged for her blood. "I feared the fate of you, as well." Though that wasn't entirely true...while he'd feared her death, he'd most desperately feared her undeath. He'd not have wished this fate upon his worst enemy, let alone his comrade.
"They knew naught." He'd never let his government think anything differently, once his change had been complete. He'd barely been coherent enough to get out of Cascade in order to minimize the deaths he would ultimately cause. After he had become more...civilized...he had found he was rather bitter at mother Russia. All he'd done for her...and she had failed him in the end. "My escape was not without great cost, Cammie." As if one cue, the animal within him clamored for attention, crying out for the sultry scent that was so close. "Be wise and keep back, dear comrade...for you smell delicious tonight, and I am naught who I used to be." His eyes seemed to positively glow within their sockets as he surveyed her, torn. He desperately wanted to find out how she'd been, what'd she'd been doing...and just as desperately wanted to taste the slick metallic tang of her blood. Such a tragic end to what had been a flawless partnership...he would never be able to justify risking her life like this again.

For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in hell tonight
