Subject: my take on the show overall

Seasons 1 to 5 are excellent. To me, this is the show. Scary, mysterious, funny. There were humorous eps but of a darker, oddball variety (Humbug, Jose Chung, Bad Blood). The mytharc kept getting grander with each installment. Sure, they kept missing the truth by this much & Scully still being a doubter after years of evidence to the contrary were drawbacks but necessary for episodic TV. I know some think S5 sucked but I disagree. Shorter and not as cool as S2-4 but still filled with great eps. Even weaker eps were worth watching and they hit a home run every 3 or 4 weeks.

The End had a jealous Scully, a sign of bad stuff to come. The movie had the almost kiss and maybe explained too much. S6 & 7 were disappointing to me. The move to LA (I bet the Fox execs didn't travel up to Vancouver to breath down CC's neck much), the star status of the leads, the show was a certified hit. Fox had them dumb down the show. The old ripped form the headlines, near plausible plots were mostly gone. The lite eps were increased. The M/S realtionship teasing was in effect. There were some good eps but the big mistakes were the deaths of the Syndicate in S6 (didn't change a thing) & the anti-climatic resolution of the Samantha storyline in S7. These 2 seaons are still watchable but a far cry from the early years. S8/9 are a travesty.

If I had my way, CC would have ended the show at S7. S6/7 would have had them zero in on the conspiracy and slowly get into a romance (a real, seen one). The ending would have had Mulder find his sister alive. Also, a Mulder/CSM confrontation where Mulder reacts to CSM now knowing thats his father. But CC blew it.
