In reply to: Christi 's message, "She needs to call the US Embassy...and DEMAND her passport back. NEVER EVER EVER relinquish your passport. NEVER..and always know where the Embassies are. For Canadian girls travelling to Int'l pageants, know that there are not Cdn consulates or embassies in all countries, the US embassies will assist so know where they are. Always go with the frame of mind that you will be well taken care of, but always always have a back up plan and a stash of emergency cash that no one knows about, well hidden and dont spend it on shopping ;) I am certain her embassy will help her, but my question is, did she go at large or through a US organzation/national director?" on 12:47:32 04/02/08 Wed

If Canada does not have an Embassy or Consulate in the region of travel one should, as per the back page of the Canadian Passport, contact the nearest British Embassy or British High Commission.

There is a British Embassy or High Commission in just about every country in the world.

Failing being able to contact either of those, you would certainly be looking to make contact with an Embassy within the Commonwealth group rather than US.

A US Embassy has no legal or political obligation to Canadian Citizens nor will they act on our behalf in matters of politics.

Maybe you would would like to take a trip to Texas and only take Canadian cash with her then try to buy a BigMac in Dallas and see what happens. The same thing will happen at the US embassy.

What country were you traveling in with no British Embassy or Canadian Embassy?

In any case, traveling to a country that lacks a Canadian or British embassy is UNWISE. And if the Canadians or British aren't there, the Americans sure wouldn't be - they are usually the first to be ousted.
