Subject: QOTD for Tuesday, November 22,2022

The following quote is from An Echo in the Bone, Chapter 3, Life for a Life. by Diana Gabaldon, Copyright 2009, All rights reserved.

This takes place just after the Buggs are caught stealing the gold from the White Sows "home".

"And then, he said, ye live with it," he said softly.

He rubbed a hand across his face.

"But I dinna think I can." It was a simple statement of fact, and scared me badly. I had no more tears, but felt as though I looked into a black, bottomless hole---and couldn't look away.

I drew a deep breath, trying to think of something to say, then pulled a handkerchief from my pocket and gave it to him.

"Are you breathing, Ian?"

His mouth twitched a little.

"Aye, I think so."

"That's all you have to do , for now." I got up, brushed hay from my skirts, and held out a hand to him. "Come along. We need to go back to the abin before we're snowed in her."

Such simple advice, in a time of great sorrow...just keep breathing.
