Let me just cover some basic points of clarification & *hopefully* we can then move on:
I don't consider myself any kind of "keeper of the breed".. I do rally for extensive health- & temperament-testing by 3rd party evaluation regardless of the breed. I'm not saying that even if a health issue is discovered, that it renders the dog "unbreedable", but that people shouldn't breed from a position of ignorance. (IMO) if a dilemma is discovered & it isn't life-threatening, it should be bred away from...
As I've always stated: everyone has different "dog breeding morals".. I remember a statement about "not telling anyone how to breed their dogs..", but haven't really enjoyed that "privilege".
I do have full disclosure of known *FACTS*.. here is a post I had put up on 4/21/09 on a working dog forum about the breeding I put together of 2 independently-tested working dogs to produce a working litter, why & the basic outcome:
http://members7.boardhost.com/Steeltrap/msg/1240356472.html
As I did spend a fair chunk of change looking into the various genetic probabilities of the mating that seems to be so "offensive", I was pleased that the funds were well-spent.
There's no "finger-pointing" toward Mr. Blackwell.. I believe he runs a tight ship (although I'm sure he doesn't care a wit what I think) & will put serious intentions into what is going on with the *possibility* of as serious an issue. I absolutely believe he has the best of intentions in producing great pets for people & has typically met that with much success. *However* just because Mr. Blackwell hears of a possible problem on this board & looks into it, doesn't mean that other people who don't read this board shouldn't be privy to the "head's up". I believe I was fairly complimentary towards my faith of Mr. Blackwell looking into it, in my cross-post. And if he feels slighted, I'm happy to call & discuss/apologize, as it wasn't my intent. I still refer appropriate people to Mr. Blackwell's kennel occasionally.. something I would hardly do if I had the negative perception of him that seems to be drummed up here. When people can make MUCH more negative statements directly towards Mr. Blackwell in the same thread but go completely unanswered, I'm more inclined to think this is some kind of a personal issue with me.
I will NEVER have as many breeding as Mr. Blackwell.. or probably any other BB breeder. My goals are completely different & we aren't even "speaking the same language". A couple years ago on the phone, DKH stated something along the lines of "I don't have the same experience level as you.." in regards to Protection Training. There was more to the conversation to example the point, but at the time that was a refreshingly forth-coming & honest answer.. the same type I give if people are interested in a BB for Herding, etc. What I select for & how I put together a breeding seems to be altogether different.. I'm not saying anyone else's program is good, bad, or otherwise. I'm proud of how my litter is turning out thus far, & I'll see how they mature. -About as much as anyone can say about any breeding.
I post pics/videos because, like others in the community, I enjoy my dogs & want to share them with people. I'm SO PROUD of other's accomplishments when they post about actually being active with what is *supposed* to be a working breed! Anytime I see a video of Julie B. competing, Ed & Jess' work, Peach's & Brandon's successes (& anyone else who I'm leaving out for the sake of brevity), it motivates me to get outside, even in the rain & work some d@mned OB! >=^) -I hope to inspire/help other folks the same way!
I have nothing but empathy for breeders! This is why I believe we should feel "safe enough" to be open about issues: so we can work together toward better temperament & health.. although by being open I have been shown an odd sort of "empathy".. more along the lines of consistently being persecuted for the same thing, over & over, by one individual.
Whatever.. I have pretty tough skin & believe in what I have going on.. I will NEVER breed enough numbers to be "competition" with anyone. I believe in breeding "better, not more", & to fulfill a specific purpose.
This is the last public post about this silliness to which I will respond, & I urge anyone who wants to take up the reins to defend me to please not.. while I have a deep-seated dislike for being ordered about like I'm to be dismissed, to respond will only cause more dissension within the community & will be totally unproductive.
I continue to have no problems discussing pertinent health & temperament issues in a polite, constructive manner.
Sorry for the disruption Folks! Tashi
