Richard, For 10 years now I have used a reconditioned alternator from a local (Glasgow)car electrical repair company, with no detrimental effects on both a YSE8 and now a YGM12. As long as the brackets accept the alternator and the pulley ratio is similar, you are OK as the output is the same, it is a 12V system after all. I now also use a Sterling digital regulator which works a treat. This company also repaired my starter motor for 30, so much for rip off so called marine electrical specialists who wanted to sell me a new one at 300!
