I fitted a folding ladder to Beachcomber (T500) on the starboard side of the transom - this swung out and down into the water when required and extended down under the surface by a telescopic section; at no time did it interfere with the rudder, which was statically fixed when the ladder was down.

I personally believe a secure, permanently accessible ladder is a critically important safety feature. And by permanently accessible I mean by someone inadvertently in the water with no one else on board to help or lower the ladder. A ladder HAS to have sufficiently immersed depth for someone in the water to step onto without having to haul themselves bodily up until a foot can get support. A fully clothed person who may be alone could have little reserves of strength to raise the weight of themselves in wet clothing by arm muscles alone.
