It is a very very tight fit.

we only got it in by having the sterngland machined down so that we could have a bit of shaft showing. we took various bits off the engine to get it though the gaps into the engine bay, the companionway on a 500 is more narrow than a 501 too.

We used a derrick to get it into the boat and a chain hoist on a baulk of timber on the coach roof for final positioning. All aided by a hatch we cut in the cockpit sole.

We had a wooden template which we could use not just for engine mount positions but which showed the shaft alignment too.
