Can you send the external parts of the winch off somewhere to have a fresh coat of chrome on them?

My Genoa winches are looking fairly tired, and whilst I'll be servicing them soon and trying not to lose those dreaded springs, I wondered if there were any pros/cons to getting them re-coated.

I wonder it it would help improve the grip.

They are the usual Lewmar ST30's (or is it 32), not S/T anyway.
