I'd think twice.

The output voltage from an alternator must be large enough to overcome the battery voltage plus the voltage frop across it's internal resistance.

Otherwise you won't have enough charge to push into the battery to cause the chemical reaction required to re-charge the battery.

You could be spending a fiver only to have to replace some (not cheap) marine batteries further down the line.

A voltage regulator is only going to be able to work with what it's got, and if your alternator aint cranking enough you'll be stumped.

I'm all for a bargain, but I'd be careful on that one.
