Subject: TS240 Mast

MY elation and anticipatory joy of rigging and launching my newly aquired old, but beautifully formed TS 240 has been miserably thwarted by what turns out to be a broken mast heel: thus I turn to you for help.

It appears - until now unnoticed - that the heel (the cast metal foot attached to the base of the mast) has been split internally (the 2 flanges that drop down over the deck upstand are still fine) - probably the result of the mast being dropped out of 'straight 'n true' during raising/lowering. Thus the two sides of the heel are no longer held together by the metal's original cast construction 'inside'.

Does anybody know from where - at a reasonable price - I can either

purchase a whole new cast heel which can replace the broken one, or

buy a second hand one (with or without mast attached), or

how this one can be mended, or (lastly)

from where I can have a new one made up.

I have thought about merely bolting the two sides together but really would like the arrangement with the locating nut to work the way it is suppoed to - and, of course I have a concern that for the masts integrity/safety.

Has anybody else had to contend with this eventuality - it does seem a very 'exposed' part of the overall design?

As you can imagine I am desparately disapppointed in discovering this with my new acquisition. Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in anticipation
