Mary,
The spirit stove does not fit into the surround that the stove is in now. (Itake it you still have the origanal sliding galley???) It wont fit by about 4 mm. and thats without the gimbel system,Also they are expensive to run. I bought a contessa 26 back from Rensburg (Keil canal) in germany and in 10 days (5 days at sea) used 3 litres of meths. My surveyor condemed my installation when I bought the boat, so much so he insisted that I removed everything and verbally assured him that I would not fit anything like the original system back in. So I bought 2 camping stoves with the piezo electric starters and dismantelled the original cooker and fitted these 2 units in the place of the burners. I cut out 2 holes in the base plate so I could fit the 450ml cartridges and have been very happy. the only down side is no grill. It saves all the problem of locker boxes etc. I think I an supposed to disconnect the catridges after useing them, (according to a local gas man)But I dont bother.
I to couldn,t justify drilling holes in the boat, "Aint natral" so this is a good and cheep way of getting round things. I wouldn't recommend "being careful" as this doesn,t holed much water with insurance companies
Kim
