Getting replacement bearings should not be too difficult. D&T Precision at Botley make Westerly bearings for Trafalgar. Lancing Marine and T Norris also will make bearings.

However, be sure that they are not nylon. I fitted some nylon bearings 3 years ago and have had to drop the rudder 3 times as they swelled with water adsorbation and have had to be eased. I have now given up on them and will replace with something like tufnol which does not adsorb so much moisture.

The previous owner of my current boat packed out the top rudder bearing with a piece of washing up liquid bottle. It worked fine for 18 months but got dislodged. Maybe just needed to be stuck a bit firmer. If it's the bottom bearing, this should be a problem - worth a try?
