Hi Jonothan, I am always concerned as I go crashing about upwind that the safety of the boat is down to 8 1/2 inch bolts that hopefully haven't sheared wih the momentum of 1/2 a ton dropping off the waves and going in a down wards direction to an upwardxs direction. the loading on the bolts must be HUGE. for the price of the bolts (less thasn a tenner) I tend not to lie awake mid channel thinking silly thoughts. I have done my best. I always promised myself that if I needed the RNLI then it would be down to sods law rather than my scimping on a £10.
When I read your message I did get a last years bolt and ran a gauge down it and found that the thread had streached just at the junction of the box to the keel.. I know it souns paranoid but I am a lot happier when out to sea and It increases my pleasure knowing there is nothing else I could have done.
This sounds like I am preaching or something, but seriosly I do get paranoid about these things as I have had bolts break on my old E-boat. and we think nothing of slapping £50-£80 on antifouling and replacing THAT every year
Cheers
Kim
