Have just had a lovely new Yanmar 15hp fitted to our 1979 T500/501. However, she seems slightly sluggish especially at higher revs and I am hard-pressed to get 6kt out of her on a flat calm despite recently cleaned undersides. The feeling is that the engine is working too hard for the speed it actually gives to the boat and the boat seems less well powered than it did with the ageing YSB12 that has been replaced. Is this a propeller matter? I spoke to the engineer who fitted the engine and he said that the choice of propeller for a trapper is always difficult because limited clearance restricts its diameter. Is this correct? The thing is, I think the old propeller had a bigger diameter (opposite direction). Can anybody tell me what the ideal prop is for an engine of this size on this particular boat? All help appreciated
Pete C
