Subject: mast pumping

I seem to be getting a large amount of what I believe is termed 'mast pumping'.
Muchado is a T500 circa 73 so the mast is quite short with just cap shrouds and single lowers, they appear to be more or less in line with the mast. I note the C&C 27 has fore and aft lowers which I presume would reduce the amount of pumping. How much is acceptable? sometimes in the gusts when sitting below I'm very aware of the low frequency shudder transmitted through the trunk of the boat. If I'm on deck i can see the mast shudder with increased vigor through what appears to be a resonant frequency and then abate.

The shrouds are tight enough such that the leeward ones don't hang slack when beating in 20-25 knot winds although I haven't used a gauge on them. (another item on the birthday list)

Is this the same for all T500/501's?

Brad
