Subject: Mast pin, TS 240

We are getting better at mast raising and lowering BUT ...
We recently lowered the mast without problems until it came to removing the pin that secures it to the deck plate. The bottom fitting of the mast and the pin were both brand new, thanks to a previous disaster and (professional) repair.
The pin just would not come out. We struggled with it for about an hour and finally got it out with a combination of oil, brute force and apparently random joggling of the mast. The pin now looks slightly deformed.
What went wrong? We've had difficulty aligning everything to insert the pin in the past, but once in, why wouldn't it come out smoothly? Can anyone advise?
Many thanks.
